Chelsea Peretti Poised to Exit "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" in Season 6

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is downsizing ahead of its move to NBC. Chelsea Peretti, who has played administrative assistant Gina Linetti since the ex-Fox sitcom’s launch, will not be returning as a series regular in Season 6. The actress broke the news Wednesday on social media.

“B99 fans. Hiiiiiiiiiiii. Chelsea Peretti, here. I won’t be doing a full season of Brooklyn Nine Nine in Season 6,” she tweeted. “But that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back, winky face emoji, heart emoji. I want to thank you for the hours you spent watching Gina be Gina. confident, idiotic-but-smart, pithy, and infused with rhythm and cell-phone radiation. It is hard for me to know exactly what to say.”

Peretti already had a reduced workload during "Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s" fifth season, having missed the first half of the season while on maternity leave.

Her character had given birth to her first daughter Enigma (with Boyle’s cousin Milton, played by Ryan Phillippe) and the maternity leave was written into the series.

Shorwunner Dan Goor later released a statement in which he all but confirmed that Gina will not be killed off.

“I know for a fact that this isn’t the last we’ll see of Gina Linetti,” Goor said on Twitter. “I mean, she got run over by a frickin’ bus, and she only missed like a week of work.”

Goor admitted that hatching an exit plot for the “amazing, hilarious, unique” Gina has been a challenge.

“We have tried really hard to create a storyline for her departure that lives up to a character who can only be described as ‘the human embodiment of the 100 emoji,” he said, before adding, “While it’s sad to see a member of the family leave we are so proud of Chelsea and excited for what she does next.”

Chelsea Peretti: Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans will "laugh and cry" with Gina's exit (https://ew.com/tv/2018/12/04/chelsea-peretti-brooklyn-nine-season-6-exit/)

“It sounds cliché but I feel like you will laugh and cry, which I think is the ideal combination of an exit for Gina Linetti,” Peretti told reporters on Tuesday at a Brooklyn Nine-Nine event. “She’s very physical. There’s a lot of very silly things that she gets to do in these episodes. But then there’s also some really emotional, connecting scenes with her family and her friends.”

Chelsea Peretti on her Brooklyn Nine-Nine exit: "It wasn't fully my decision" to leave (https://tvline.com/2019/01/31/brooklyn-nine-nine-gina-leaving-season-6-chelsea-peretti-exit-interview/)

Even though Thursday's episode (http://forums.previously.tv/topic/90531-s06e04-four-movements/?do=getLastComment) bid farewell to Peretti's Gina Linetti, she'll be back for another episode later this season. In an interview with TVLine, Peretti admitted that walking away from her co-stars “wasn’t fully just my decision. It’s hard to get into the weeds of what exactly transpired and how it all shook out, but it kind of came together to be this timing that presented itself. So I kind of knew that it was going to be happening for a while… (and was) holding on to this feeling of, like, ‘I’m going away from this family’ in my head.” Peretti also wants to make it clear there is no bad blood. “If you talk to anyone in acting — we didn’t even know if the show was going to be renewed or not — you’re always thinking (about) what’s going to happen in your life," she says. "It’s the endless twists and turns of show business, and this is kind of how it wound up evolving. But I’m going to do another episode, and there’s nothing but family feel, so… “

I haven’t seen this show for several seasons, but she was a good character. Make her recurring, do an episode or two a year. Why not?

As part of her settlement deal this A- list mostly television actress is not allowed to discuss the real reason she won't be back for another season of the hit network show on which she has a main role. I think she bites her tongue really hard when giving the runaround to reporters.
