Has anybody else noticed that around the 1970 and 1971 seasons, Samantha stopped dressing like a conservative Connecticut housewife, and she began wearing denim, chokers, and even going bra-less (in essence, "mod clothes") on the show (https://web.archive.org/web/20140406110342/http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/topic/3119639-bewitched/page-14#entry13380824)? Was Elizabeth Montgomery influenced by the changing TV landscape (it was around this time, that she was growing tired of Bewitched and was ready to move on) that included All in the Family and The Mary Tyler Moore Show?

It seems they were trying to make her more hip and modern. But I can't stand those cheesy looking 70s clothes.

Samantha's appearance certainly morphs very noticeably between Season 1 and Season 8. Looks like a different person by Season 8.

The long, straight, parted-in-the-middle hair was the style for women at the time. Even Marlo Thomas switched to that style for That Girl's final season. The wardrobe/makeup personnel were just keeping Liz's look current. I preferred the classier mid-'60s look myself. I think she looked flawless in early 1967--the last half of Season 3 and the episodes of Season 4 that were filmed in Spring '67.

I was watching early season one recently and in a few scenes Liz's hair is really, really short - mostly in the scenes shot around her pregnancy. I like her look in those shots you chose too. It's very chic on Liz.

It must of been around this time that Elizabeth Montgomery started sporting "long, straight hippie-hair" as somebody pointed out (https://www.reddit.com/r/sitcoms/comments/1gnodnt/comment/lwdoi4w/) on r/sitcoms.

She was really Serena all along!

The show aged with the times. It debuted in the conservative mid 60s and went into the liberal hippie era. I had to laugh and people commenting how her fashion choices morphed from season 1 to season 8. What sitcom didn't. Threes Company debuted in the mid to late 70s with patches on jeans and went into the shoulder pad 80s. All of their looks drastically changed in 8 seasons. Bewitched is no different. Samantha dressed what was in style each year.

In a 70's + interview Tabatha said Eliz in real life was Serena !

I think she was bored playing Samantha and was hoping that the show would be cancelled.

I don't care as much if Liz was wearing something now dated late in the series -- but as a
long hair fanatic, I almost need to recuse myself in commenting on how great she continued
to look. Just gorgeous with those silky longer tresses:

Just look at her long hair in this image, SO lovely. And
wearing a great short dress, a very hot look in every way:
317932

Absolutely beautiful, and hip-hugger belts make for a
sexy accessory. To me she's one of TV's all-time hottest
women:
317933

In an unlikely hairstyle, here we see Liz wearing double ponytails
and looking remarkably pretty. The wonderful fullness of her hair
is very evident. Short skirts, like this one, are a definite plus as
the series winds down. Liz was truly fantastic-looking:

I totally agree. I much prefer her clothes and hair styles from the first 4 seasons. She looked beautiful then! Still looked good later on, but not as good to me.

Oh yes, I have to admit seasons three and four are my favorite for her hair and clothes. Also like S1 and S2.

Asher KNEW what was HOT and how to SELL IT ... (including Samantha & Serena !)

William Asher also directed a number of theatrical release films, including Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Bikini Beach, Beach Blanket Bingo, and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini, for all of which he was also a co-writer.

Asher then married Elizabeth Montgomery in 1963, just before Bewitched began its run. They had three children and divorced in 1973. His third marriage was to Joyce Bulifant and it lasted from 1976 to 1993.

In addition to Our Miss Brooks and I Love Lucy, Asher directed episodes of The Colgate Comedy Hour, Make Room for Daddy, The Twilight Zone (1959 TV series), The Patty Duke Show, Gidget, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Alice. Asher and Montgomery befriended President John F. Kennedy, and, together with Frank Sinatra, planned Kennedy's 1961 inaugural ceremony.[2]

Asher's best-known work was Bewitched, which he directed regularly over its entire eight-year run, although he was only credited as producer for its last five seasons. At that time, he was married to the show's star Elizabeth Montgomery.

I choose seasons 1-4.

Didn't like the Ali McGraw "ironed hair" look (on Marlo either) then or now.

The Flip is a sublime, flattering, joyful hairstyle that doesn't get its ''do''.

Elizabeth Montgomery's hair here (https://s13686.pcdn.co/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/ElizabethMontgomeryABewitchedLife_1920x1080_Centered_Clean.jpg) kind of reminds me of Sally Ann Howes' in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang:

I admittedly liked, Elizabeth Montgomery's hairstyle in her final acting project, Deadline for Murder: From the Files of Edna Buchanan:

She kind of to me, looks like an older version of Melanie Griffith in the film Milk Money:

I watched Milk Money pretty recently, Melanie Griffith = SO HOT

I've chosen some looks for Liz Montgomery from very late in the
series, let's have a look. Generally what I love is seeing her longer
hair cascading over her shoulders.

These first 3 images I believe are all from the same episode.

Liz's hair has such a nice wave and it's gently curled toward the
ends. Perfect volume. Remember too that she's 7 years or more
older than when Bewitched began, and she easily retains her
hotness:

320878

320880

All-one length style of hair coming closer to the eyes; a very
pleasing look, with fairly minimal curling:
320881

Here we see wonderful length, so attractive:
320882

Getting back to wardrobe, Liz's nice knee-high white stockings
are noteworthy in this image:
320883

This is the image I really love. Liz looks so beautiful in her skirt
and long-sleeved top. Very lovely look, I'm reminded of why I
find her looks to be remarkably hot:

I wonder if Elizabeth Montgomery started going into her you could say, "midlife crisis" look on Bewitched when she separated from William Asher. It's like she seemingly wanted to do an entire persona about-face and move on and upward from her Bewitched persona and show for good. So Elizabeth and by extension, Samantha became this much sexier liberated-looking, -dressing and acting person.

It's funny that many of you have a thread on this, because I recently started thinking about Serena's hairdos and outfits through the years. I saw a clip on YouTube today focusing on Darrin's first encounter with Serena at the maternity ward where Tabitha was om display with the other babies.

Elizabeth Montgomery you could argue, started to look ever so slightly dowdy toward the end with the same hairdo and blouses. But then in the final season, she grew her hair longer with a center part and wore minidresses and boots and quite possibly, looked the best she ever had, ironically enough.
