There's a thread about unfunny comedians. This one is about funny comedians that maybe everyone doesn't know about. I try the comedy channels on satellite radio, and these are some comedians I've found to be pretty funny. Some don't get much airplay now, but I think they're all on YouTube:

John Pinette - overweight, now deceased comedian who talks a lot about food and the aggravations of life.
Mitch Hedberg - now deceased, does a lot of Steven Wright-type observations, with drug humor.
Brian Regan - stories about family and everyday life.
Kathleen Madigan - surly comedian makes fun of herself and others.
Jeanne Robertson - storyteller from North Carolina, could be called a contemporary Minnie Pearl.
Michael Junior - comedy from a Christian perspective.
"Rabbi Bob" Alper - the lighter side of being a rabbi.

I've actually heard of all of those except for "Rabbi Bob" Alper. Based on the material that I've heard I think that all six of them are funny except for Jeanne Robertson.

Russian comedian Yakov Smirnoff might qualify. While some know who he is, he does not seem to get publicity like other comedians. He was part of why Branson was my favorite vacation ever (it's been so long ago now :() along with violinist Shoji Tobuchi. I have now seen Yakov Smirnoff's appearance on Johnny Carson since Antenna TV started airing it. And I finally have gotten to see his one season sitcom What a Country! But sadly only three episodes were available of that online, would be nice to see the whole series. I also think he would be a lot better late night host than any of the current underwhelming crop.

I also know most of them and think they're quite funny.

Yakov Smirnoff's career ended when the Soviet Union fell. That was his shtick.
