The cast was divided up into the popular kids--Jennifer, Vinnie, LaDonna, and Muffy (sort of)--and the unpopular kids--Patty, Lauren, Marshall, and Johnny Slash--and yet the way the show (https://web.archive.org/web/20140407133828/http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/topic/3155578-square-pegs-id-like-it-if-they-liked-us-but-i-dont-think-they-like-us/?view=getnewpost) worked, the popular kids were always winding up doing things with the unpopular kids, and so you couldn't figure out why the popular kids hated them so much (especially since Patty and Lauren were so slavish in their adoration of Jennifer and Vinnie and LaDonna).

I don't know if a show like Square Pegs could resonant with today's generation like it may have done with Gen Xers (https://www.reddit.com/r/GenX/comments/xjkba1/who_remembers_square_pegs/). Square Pegs was such a time capsule (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UnintentionalPeriodPiece/TheEighties). That isn't necessarily always a bad thing, but it had (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPnhxxwP3-Q&lc=UgzBB-8aEAxC1O5hzzV4AaABAg) such a distinctive "'80s flavor".

And going back to my first point, are children and teenagers today really that caught up with the notion (https://www.reddit.com/r/nirvanakilledmycareer/comments/xr1hk1/mean_girls_2004_killed_the_teen_movie/) of cliques (https://www.reddit.com/r/nirvanakilledmycareer/comments/xr1hk1/comment/iqday2l/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) and the desire to be popular (https://www.reddit.com/r/nirvanakilledmycareer/comments/xr1hk1/comment/iqd9sy9/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)? I guess another to put it is if you today showed say, a 13 year old Square Pegs, how likely would it be that they wouldn't understand any of the teenage tribalism that Gen Xers grew up with in the '80s?
