Did you know that there is a very similiar All in the Family which was broadcast in Germany in the early seventies called "Ekel Alfred'? This show also had a bigot father (and good grief... he even looks like a Hitler!), his 'dumb' wife (Else), a 'Gloria' type daugher (Rita) and a son-in-law who was exactly like Mike (Michael). I couldn't believe it .. they even copied the two chairs where 'Edith' and 'Archie' sit !!! I saw the show (reruns) in Germany on a recent visit. The comments where just as funny and well-delivered as our dear Archie over here.

I love the show (All in the Family)..it's truely funny. If you want to see the characters of the German version go to: http://www.butterbrot.de/einherzundeineseele/alfred.htm
Apparently England also had their own version with "Alf Garnett".

Funny. All In the Family was based on a british series, but I have never heard of this German one.
When did this show air?

I believe it ran from 1973-1976. When was the British version aired?

I believe "Til Death DO Us Part" ran in the mid to late 60's.

Have to look that one up today...

FYI
Alf Garnett in Till Death Us Do Part, introduced the Garnett character, which began broadcasting in 1964 and its sequel, In Sickness and In Health, was on British screens until 1992.
