Tim Steele of Corvallis died of lung cancer at home, with his wife and a group of devoted friends at his side.

Tim was born in Stockton, Calif., and attended Oregon State University before finishing his degree in theatre at San Diego State University. After serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, he began a long career in the television industry. His many credits as a producer include the sitcom “Night Court.”

As he grew older, Tim’s early interest in ceramics became a passion, and he dedicated himself to the art and craft of making pottery. His pottery mentor was Hiroshi Ogawa of Elkton, and Tim frequently traveled from Los Angeles to Elkton to participate in the wood-firings there. This led to Tim and his wife, Kathy, moving to Corvallis in 2007.

Tim carried a love of Oregon State with him since leaving the university in the early 1960s. After returning to Corvallis, he and his wife made a lasting connection with the creative writing program at OSU. Tim treasured the new circle of friends he found through this association. He supported the Visiting Writers Series and helped make possible a third-year graduate research assistant position for Master of Fine Arts students.

Tim is survived by his wife, Kathy Brisker.

A memorial is being planned for the spring. Tim hoped that donations would be made to the Brisker-Steele Creative Writing Fund through the OSU Foundation.

It looks the funeral home info is the only source available or at least I wasn't able to find anything else. Sometimes the families of the deceased will not release the information except through their local paper or the funeral home handling the service. This one was actually found by accident.

I didn’t know he passed away. Still, very sad.
