I just saw this one right now ! The one with the little orphan girl who shoplifted from the deli where Nell was shopping , guest starring Don Rickles! It seemed to me that they might be trying to do a backdoor pilot and have this be a new TV series! Did anyone else think that? It would have been good. The ep. was really good and I liked Don Rickles and this little girl together. They were funny exchanging quips and insults! ;):D

I remember seeing it on Antenna, and thinking it was just plain awful. Couldn't believe a talented comedian like Don Rickles lowered himself to being on this awful show!

Not true. He also did a Murphy Brown, so he sunk much much lower.

I found this in a book I have about spinoffs. It was tricky to photograph (because the book is hard to lay flat), so let's see how readable it posts.

Wow!! I hope you are kidding?;) The way we joke cause I like this show and you don't and the Andy Gibb thing from before !:lol:So maybe you are posting this in fun? ;) Because this was a really nice , sweet ep. Don Rickles , (and Nell too) were sweethearts , having a heart for this little girl and not letting her go into the juvenile hall system and be arrested and get into foster care or worse / jail ! :(

It showed a sweet soft side to Don Rickles (yet he stayed true to his funny insulting self) :D!:) He saw this poor orphan child who was shoplifting and ripping his store off was actually really desperate and hungry and a sweet little girl at heart ,:) not a juvenile delinquent and he took her in and even wanted to adopt her ! :)

It showed Don Rickles in a really good light! :)He should be proud he took this role! ;)

Like in the Postscript it said how Mr. Rickles was actually very nice and kind in real life.:) Here is a very sweet video of Don and Jonathan Silverman from 2016 having dinner and discussing family, faith, Neil Simon, careers, etc. :)

I think it was fairly common knowledge Rickles was a sweetheart off stage. Otherwise he couldn't get away with the things he said on stage !

It was just a desperate attempt to spin off what would've been an awful show (around the level of GAB's awfulness). Maybe if it had been another show:/

No, because you never watched the 30 second clip I left you in muddle.

Or maybe you did watch it and forgot to mention it.

Or maybe you mentioned watching it and I didn't see the post.

Or maybe......oh screw it, I'll just go watch the Rickles video...

I was right! "The Last Word", which was the name of the restaurant, was gonna be the name of that show which was Gimme A Break's 3rd spinoff attempt. The restaurant was previously called "Two Guys From Greece"....that's what I thought the title was gonna be, but that was the "previous" name of the restaurant. They had changed it to "The Last Word". I caught onto this a while ago as I kept thinking it was gonna be called the other title, but then realized the name was changed, and it sounded so much better for a title.
