I thought about this why randomly scrolling around the old jump the shark website (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031125219/http://www.jumptheshark.com/f/factsoflife.htm)

I kind of grew up with this program. I tripped over it as I/they were in high school, initially drawn by Blair's inviting hips and spiked heel boots. But it went through the slowest most gradual downhill I ever saw. I think the boy on the show was the last straw for me. Removing Mrs Garrett was a 'huh?' move and the change of set to the bakery was really nuts (how did i know the bakery'd burn down one day?). The scripts got really inane and repetitious--how many times can Jo and Blair fight before you yawn and change the channel? Then Blair became a porker of the first order--it was like seeing the girls in college who tried to dress up to hide the flab. Jo was not meant to wear suits, and she certainly was not meant to be in those stupid Valerie Bertinelli-ish 'young woman in peril' TV movies. Tootie became quite a dish for awhile and started to dress in an interesting way sometimes (boing!). But then she became porky and it wasn't even fun to watch with the volume off.
This show jumped when they opened the asinine In Over Our Heads store, chock full of essential 80's schlock like inflatable palm trees, neon pictures, and everything in pastel blue and pink. Wonderful. I do admit that I loved Blair during the shows early years. She always wore these stunning boots that made me drool. But I digress, as she was reduced to a tacky 80's shag cut and overblown shoulderpads...Mindy Cohn was a cow. Nancy McKeon was a lesbian and didn't know it. Tootie needed a muzzle. Edna Garrett lost her mind. Sandy Duncan lost her eye. George Clooney lost a plumb acting gig.
