Carla Gugino celebrates her 47th birthday today. Gugino began working as a model in her teens, and in the late 1980s she began appearing in guest roles on television and in small film parts. She was a recurring character on the final season of Falcon Crest, starred with Pauly Shore in the rom-com Son in Law, and was cast as a regular on the first season of Spin City (her character was written out partway through the season). In the 2000s, Gugino worked with Robert Rodriguez several times—as Ingrid Cortez in the three Spy Kids films, and as the parole officer Lucille in Sin City.
While Gugino never became a first-tier star, she has worked steadily. She has had several regular roles on television, generally either in series that were short-lived (Karen Sisco, Roadies), or roles that lasted only one season (such as her stints on Chicago Hope or Californication). Gugino starred in Sebastian Gutierrez’s two-film series Women in Trouble and Electra Luxx, and played basketball coach Cathy Rush in The Mighty Macs. Last year, she starred in the horror film Gerald’s Game and the sci-fi romance The Space Between Us.
