Costas tells the New York Post he plans to leave NBC (http://awfulannouncing.com/nbc/bob-costas-reportedly-in-discussions-to-leave-nbc-after-nearly-four-decades.html) to pursue a journalism show that would feature interviews, commentaries and a critical look at the world of sports and perhaps other topics. Costas has spent nearly four decades at NBC with a multi-million contract that is scheduled to expire in 2021, but The Post reports that Costas and NBC will begin discussions to allow him to exit his contract three years early. NBC rarely uses Costas on-air since he stepped away from his Olympics and Sunday Night Football roles, so he mostly does broadcast work these days on MLB Network. “Sometimes you get to a point where it is not a fit anymore,” Costas tells the Post. “It doesn’t mean that anyone is angry or upset.” NBC declined comment.

At least onscreen, Costas was a gentleman.

He has no place in this time of illiterate screeching morons that infest sports on TV.

This network thinks it can handle any push back against the hiring of this disgraced morning news guy. Apparently he discovered who was tipping off some reporters over the years about the host's harassment. That person, also a celebrity, is being forced out of his long time job as payback from executives who think the host is a good guy who has been given an unfair shake. Uh huh. I'm guessing one of those executives is one who once said he loved intern season because it was nonstop sex all summer. I can somewhat understand the rationale behind Bob Costas theoretically not "fitting in" too much anymore at NBC. They no longer have the broadcasting rights to baseball or the NBA, too sports that Costas was most associated with outside of the Olympics. It seems quite apparent that as soon as Mike Tirico arrived from ESPN was was going to take Costas' place as the defacto "face" (with Liam McHugh as the #2 guy) of the network's sports division. And while NBC does have other sports right now like the NHL and NASCAR, those aren't exactly Costas' forte.

I don't understand why however, Costas had to go into "semi-retirement" in the first place. He's only 66 years old, which is still relatively young for a sportscaster. I mean, his colleagues, Al Michaels, Marv Albert, and Doc Emerick are well into their 70s now, and there still broadcasting top-tier games. Vin Scully, for whom Bob Costas worked with on baseball back in the '80s, did still Dodgers games when he was pushing 90.

You want to work until 90? I sure don’t. As soon as I hit 65 I’m done.

Indeed as Costas says he got fed up with concussions and football. And that kind of signaled the beginning of the end for him.
Mike Tirico is indeed becoming the face of NBC and once Al Michaels retires(Will be sad on that day as a favorite of mine), he will inherit S.N.F.
