Tammy the would-be steak stealer is coming back to "Mom".
EW has learned exclusively that Kristen Johnston will reprise her role as Tammy Diffendorf, Bonnie’s (Allison Janney) foster sister who landed in prison because she attempted to rob an Outback Steakhouse.
Johnston will be featured in three episodes this season.
“She’s going to get out of prison and live with Bonnie and Christy,” explains creator/showrunner Gemma Baker. “It’s going to be really fun.”
Johnston last appeared in the season 4 episode “Crazy Snakes and a Clog to the Head,” which explained how Bonnie first met Tammy in a foster house before she got her kicked out and Tammy’s life went downhill as a result.
Tammy hit rock bottom at an Outback restaurant, where she attempted to swipe steaks on a “Cops Eat Free” night. She was arrested by 32 people.

Been a long time since I’ve heard from her.
Yong Fang 11-01-2018, 09:45 AM I hate her character. Please tell me she isnt a regular (and I groaned when I saw her in the second episode last week).
Chocolate Moose 11-01-2018, 09:46 AM I just adore her. Her character is off the wall fun!
Yong Fang 11-01-2018, 10:49 PM Seriously, Tammy the character needs to go. For God sakes dont have her on the show for good. Sort of beinging this thread full circle, why not just have one or both of the children back instead of "Tammy"? This is a female version of the father from Family Guy.
Chocolate Moose 11-02-2018, 09:36 AM Ooof. I don't care for the kids at all; I prefer this new character!!!
Adamantium 11-02-2018, 05:09 PM I like Tammy and hope she sticks around for a while. Though I can understand why someone wouldn't like her. In fact, when I first saw she'd be returning, I wasn't too thrilled, but she won me over. She's a lot goofier than she was in her debut episode. I like that she has a history with Bonnie though and is not just some new person in her life.
As for the kids, I liked them too, especially Violet. I would love to see them both again. At least they didn't just Chuck Cunningham/Judy Winslow them.I mean they don't mention them anymore, but they at least had Violet leave to move in with Luke and we know that Roscoe stays with Baxter and Candace. So their departures were somewhat explained (even though neither departure would indicate they'd never come to visit). So if anything, they did a Mike Douglas (from My Three Sons). He had a farewell episode, but was then never mentioned again (or maybe mentioned just once).
Her character is getting funnier, the first couple of episodes with her weren't that great but she's getting better.
It's nice to see her back on the show.

Violet returns next week. Personally I think Tammy is hilarious.

Chocolate Moose 07-19-2019, 11:00 AM YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LoopyDreamer 11-21-2020, 12:26 AM How funny would it be if Chuck Lorre replaces Anna with Melissa McCarthy as Kristie. It's just not the same without the Kristie character and it's only one season. I think it would be a hoot :happyface

It's been over a decade since I watched Family Guy, but from what I remember of it Tammy is no Peter Griffin. Peter was an idiot who drank and did stupid things. Tammy is nothing like that. She cares about her friends and is learning how to act with others again while being sober. She at least has depth and character development. I'm sure if I watch a newer episode of Family Guy, Peter would be the same as he was in the beginning seasons of the show. Tammy has grown a lot since her first episode. I like Tammy. I feel the producers and writers knew Anna was jumping ship before she even announced it and that's why they brought in Kristen as a regular. She's a talented actress who clicks well with Allison. They needed to fill that void for when it came and I think it was a smart choice.
Why Mom fans are worried about Tammy in season 8 (https://www.looper.com/289989/why-mom-fans-are-worried-about-tammy-in-season-8/)
Some fans worry Tammy will get into a relationship with Adam
CBS
Redditor u/NYColette (https://www.reddit.com/r/CBS_Mom/comments/jz8q4u/i_love_kristen_johnston_and_the_character_tammy/) started a thread worrying about Tammy's future: "I love Kristen Johnston and the character Tammy~ but I'm worried. . . that the writers are doing some set up for some relationship between Tammy and Adam. God, please let them no. Awkward and a bummer." Recent episodes have seen Tammy and Adam (William Fichtner) getting closer emotionally to one another, and despite Adam being married to Bonnie, the fear is that he could engage in infidelity (a subject the show hasn't been afraid of addressing before).
Redditor u/venus974 shared the same fear by expressing, "I hope not but I got that feeling too. They opened up emotionally to each other and shared something." Adam cheating on Bonnie (even emotionally) would definitely be the kind of plot point to draw in viewers, but other fans don't seem to think that's where the show's heading. One fan wrote, "I think they're just working on expanding the relationships the characters have with each other to help make up for Anna being gone." Anna Faris departing from the Chuck Lorre-produced CBS sitcom came as a shock to fans, and it called into question what kind of storylines the writers would be able to craft without Bonnie's daughter around.
Mom is among many TV shows to carry on without their stars, and just like The Office and That '70s Show before it, the team behind the scenes just needs to get creative. This often involves putting characters who ordinarily haven't interacted much into various situations, and by all accounts, that's what's happening here. If anything, Tammy will likely just become a good friend to Adam, especially considering all the handiwork she does around his bar.
Tammy is one of Bonnie's closest friends. It would definitely be a shocker if she began an affair with her husband, who was willing to go along with it. As of right now, fears of any more infidelity are unfounded.

When that episode ended, I had the same thought that the writers might try to create something there between them. But after this last episode, I don't think they will. It's gotta be a treat for 3rd Rock fans like me seeing Kristen and French in another show together and being lovers. It's odd and entertaining at the same time. Bonnie and Adam are seen as a lot closer than ever. His role in the show has expanded since Anna is gone. I think they're trying to have Adam's presence in the other women's lives grow so they can give him more to do in the show instead of just being Bonnie's husband. I'm sure we'll see episodes of him trying to be Jill's friend over the trouble she's having with Andy.

I agree, Idt they will have Adam cheat on Bonnie. He was not interested last season when his sponsor tried to. Tammy isn’t that type either.
RetroGuy2000 12-08-2020, 01:39 AM I also believe they won't have Adam cheat on Bonnie. I feel like that would ruin one of the main stable things in her life.
