View Full Version : What is the quintessential 1970s TV show? I think The Partridge Family is another one of them. 1960'sTVfan 08-26-2018, 08:58 PM Since we did one for '80s shows (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=374750).....what TV show do you think screams "70s"? I would say All In The Family fits that description the most since it pretty much ran the full decade, 1971 to 79. Brady Bunch and Partridge Family both have that 70's vibe, but both shows only ran till 1974. Other 1970's sitcoms have a 70's vibe too, for example Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore, Sanford And Son, but I believe All In The Family is the quintessential one. When discussing genres, I would say that cop shows fit the 1970's most because the 70's is more known for cop/detective shows, with the sitcom genre second. biffbronson 08-26-2018, 09:46 PM I put two shows in bold below, one sitcom and one not-sitcom. Sitcom: I would go with All In the Family as well. I'll also mention Welcome Back, Kotter, The Odd Couple, and One Day at a Time as having real '70s flavor. Drama: Eight Is Enough and Family. Honorable mentions: The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie though they don't really "scream" '70s as they're period series. Horror/Suspense: The Night Stalker Adventure/Superhero: Wonder Woman and The Incredible Hulk (originally Wonder Woman was set in the WWII era though). Cops/Detectives: Hawaii Five-O. Also The Rockford Files, The Streets of San Francisco, and Baretta. Variety: The Carol Burnett Show. Also Sonny & Cher. Western/Frontier: Kung Fu (again though a "period" series). Finally I have to mention M*A*S*H and Happy Days as dominant '70s series, but being set in earlier eras like a few others I mentioned.
