View Full Version : Ranking Episodes
Lorimar Television 08-26-2018, 05:41 PM I just recently rewatched season 1 and thought I would rank the season. I might do more seasons as well. Going from worst episode to best:
13. The Return of Mr. Garrett- This wasn't my favorite episode, its nice to see Mrs G's ex but it was just sort of boring. The girls didn't have much of a big role.
12. Rough Housing- The acting was really rough (no pun intended) in this episode. It just feels weird seeing the DS cast on FOL. Mrs G. seemed to be overacting everything. The main plot was fine but the acting left a lot to be desired besides Julie Anne's and Lisa's.
11. Adoption- It's weird, Natalie's ONLY main plot in season 1 and it just is sort of boring. Blair's sublet wasn't that great either, the most memorable part is Tootie's line "Instructions?!"
10. Overachieving- This wasn't a bad episode but it doesn't really stick out much. Nice to see Tootie's father but he was kinda judgmental of Mrs. G. Also since when did Tootie wanna go to beauty school?
9. Like Mother, Like Daughter- I actually liked this episode, most of the girls had memorable lines and funny moments. It was interesting seeing Blair's (original) mother
8. Emily Dickinson- Blair and Tootie are the stars of this episode which is fine, but the others didn't do much of anything.
7. The Facts of Love- I liked the plot of this episode and the bouncing off of the different girls views on sex.
6. Flash Flood- A very good episode, sort of hilarious seeing Blair suddenly crush on Bradley.
5. Dieting- A Sue Ann storyline will always be great to me, and this was one of the more dramatic s1 episodes. It was a serious storyline that I think was pretty well done, with some good comedic moments. I liked Natalie's subplot much more than her main plot episode.
4. Molly's Holiday- This was actually a really good ep, Molly is a good character and it was interesting to learn about her family life. The thing I didn't like was that Nancy and Cindy leave 9 minutes into the ep. I know they were cutting the cast but I liked the ensemble of season 1. It would've been nice to see them more.
3. Running- I liked how this episode exploring Sue Ann and Cindy's friendship. Bradley was a total douche trying to turn them against each other
2. Dope- The finale, and a great one at that. Definitely the most serious episode of the season. I love Sue Ann storylines, and her "essay" she wrote stoned was hilarious. Tootie is also very funny in this episode.
1. IQ- My favorite episode of season 1 and the final one with the entire cast (Miss Mahoney). I really liked that every character had a shining moment in the episode, Nancy finally had a plot on the main series. Tootie was hilarious and Mrs. G and Mr Bradley taking the quiz was quite hilarious to watch.

Thanks for posting this, Lorimar!
I think my favorite episodes of Season One could be ranked thusly:
1. Running - for all the reasons you note; possibly my favorite Facts episode of all time, as The Julies face off! The drama of the torn photo, the anger of the girls... it's just perfect!
2. Dope - so many great, funny lines! Julie and Lisa are great here, too, and as you say, Tootie has very funny lines.
3. Dieting - ooh! drama!
4. Rough Housing - the very first heart-to-heart on the series itself!
5. The Facts of Love - this episode is just fun, in a very '70s sort of way.
6. Flash Flood - moar drama!
7. IQ
Bonus: The Slumber Party
8. Like Mother, Like Daughter
9. Emily Dickinson
Bonus: The Girls' School
10. Molly's Holiday - As you say, Felice and Julie Anne exit nine minutes into the episode. Sad!
11. Overachieving
12. Adoption
13. The Return of Mr. Garrett - least favorite of my favorite season
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 02:24 AM I think my favorite episodes of Season One could be ranked thusly:
Be sure you state in your post that you are ranking them best to worst, because Lorimar in his original post sets the precedent in the opposite order. :)
(I'm like Nancy right now; trying to organize and keep things neat 'n tidy  )

Where is your list, '80s?
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 12:06 PM Where is your list, '80s?
I don't think I'll be doing a list. It's always seemed like such an undertaking to me to rank favorite/best-of lists; especially when you see lists of the "50 most whatever" or the "100 best whatever"---I'm like, "Really? How can you honestly rank 50 or 100 things in a true individualized order of worth??"
Now granted, TV seasons aren't that long, but still, 22-26 shows is an awful lot of shows to actually rank in a descending or ascending order.
Now, that said, it can be really fun reading such lists! I just don't see how folks can do it, lol. If I were gonna rank any FOL seasons though, I'm sure season 1 would be the least stressful since it's merely 13 shows. But, still. I would have to really scrutinize my thoughts. I have my favorites, and my not-so-favorites, but I've never organized them into an honest ranking.
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 12:19 PM 13. The Return of Mr. Garrett- This wasn't my favorite episode
Correct, as obviously it is your least favorite episode! :p
its nice to see Mrs G's ex but it was just sort of boring. The girls didn't have much of a big role.
I think it's interesting because it's the only time we ever see Mrs. Garrett's ex-husband, and it's cute watching the girls become innocent gamblers, lol.
Plus, it's the one time we see Mr. Bradley and Miss Mahoney come bursting into Mrs. Garrett's room from her "bathroom"!
12. Rough Housing- The acting was really rough (no pun intended) in this episode. It just feels weird seeing the DS cast on FOL. Mrs G. seemed to be overacting everything. The main plot was fine but the acting left a lot to be desired besides Julie Anne's and Lisa's.
Well, luckily, since Julie Anne and Lisa had the bulk of the show, most of the acting we saw was good. I don't get the sense of Mrs. Garrett "overacting", though; I'm not saying you're wrong or not validated, it's just now how I see it.
11. Adoption- It's weird, Natalie's ONLY main plot in season 1 and it just is sort of boring.
Really? I found it so dramatic as a kid; I vividly recall Natalie standing there in front of that ringing phone, with her birth mother (well, her name, anyway) right on the other end of that receiver!*
*(kids, that's a part of telephones which were used "back in the day", haha)
Also since when did Tootie wanna go to beauty school?
Well, Mrs. Garrett does explain that young girls are fickle and always changing their minds.
9. Like Mother, Like Daughter- I actually liked this episode, most of the girls had memorable lines and funny moments.
My Cindy didn't. :( Some of the girls, such as her, were barely in this. Also, this episode has the distinction of being the most awkward episode taped in front of a live audience; the audience is barely responsive! The laughs are sparse, and soft, and it sounds like hardly anyone is in the seats out there. It is very odd (focus on this the next time you watch it).
8. Emily Dickinson- Blair and Tootie are the stars of this episode which is fine, but the others didn't do much of anything.
Yup, the writers really needed to balance so many scripts out more.
4. Molly's Holiday- The thing I didn't like was that Nancy and Cindy leave 9 minutes into the ep.
Right?? UGH, I hate that too---I like Molly, and I want her friend Cindy to be there with her! At least she did get to be there for her up in her room, but still, I hate that she (and Nancy) leave the entire campus, indeed, even the town!
Also: Nancy and Cindy are left out of the sensitive girl group scene in "Adoption" when the other girls are comforting Natalie up in her room. Why?? They are her friends, they should be up there too! That really bothers me. I would rather see them up there with 0 lines than not having them there at all.
3. Running- Bradley was a total douche trying to turn them against each other
Hahaha  He really was! Yet, you don't hate him (at least, I don't, lol); it's a different interesting look at his character, for sure.
2. Dope- Tootie is also very funny in this episode.
Just her visual reaction alone when Tumpy stone-edly says, "You don't hit it, it hits youuuuu!" and Tootie leans back with that judging look on her face,
"I.Q." is your favorite, interesting...I'm sure it's Felice's favorite, too! lol
RetroGuy2000 08-27-2018, 12:19 PM 11. Adoption- It's weird, Natalie's ONLY main plot in season 1 and it just is sort of boring. Blair's sublet wasn't that great either, the most memorable part is Tootie's line "Instructions?!"
I agree that this episode is missing a lot of the oomph of other earlier episodes. And Mindy wasn't yet ready for a dramatic role.
10. Overachieving- This wasn't a bad episode but it doesn't really stick out much. Nice to see Tootie's father but he was kinda judgmental of Mrs. G. Also since when did Tootie wanna go to beauty school?
I wish we had seen Mr. Ramsey in later episodes. It feels weird to see Tootie for nine years and only once, very early on, do we see her father. Here he seems like an attentive father. But we do not get that impression from later episodes.
The Facts of Love- I liked the plot of this episode and the bouncing off of the different girls views on sex.
Me too! Although they really didn't cover much actual sex education in this sex education class, to be honest.
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 12:27 PM 1. Running - for all the reasons you note; possibly my favorite Facts episode of all time, as The Julies face off! The drama of the torn photo, the anger of the girls... it's just perfect!
Haha, definitely one of my all-time top faves!
4. Rough Housing - the very first heart-to-
heart on the series itself!
And it took up 2 scenes! 2 scenes! I LOVE that! Cindy gets one of the most in-depth Mrs. Garrett heart-to-hearts ever! :D
5. The Facts of Love - this episode is just fun, in a very '70s sort of way.
Hahaha...don't forget those 8-tracks when you wanna impress the ladies! ;)
10. Molly's Holiday - As you say, Felice and Julie Anne exit nine minutes into the episode. Sad!
A betrayal!
13. The Return of Mr. Garrett - least favorite of my favorite season
Wow, so far this is the least favorite episode in this thread...very interesting...
RetroGuy2000 08-27-2018, 12:28 PM Also, this episode has the distinction of being the most awkward episode taped in front of a live audience; the audience is barely responsive! The laughs are sparse, and soft, and it sounds like hardly anyone is in the seats out there. It is very odd (focus on this the next time you watch it).
Hmmmm.... Is it possible that this was the notorious episode that was re-taped? And maybe they didn't re-tape it in front of a full audience? Maybe just some of the crew, seated in the seats?
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 12:35 PM I agree that this episode is missing a lot of the oomph of other earlier episodes. And Mindy wasn't yet ready for a dramatic role.
Aww, I like some of Mindy's dramatic moments. When she yells at her friends to "Stop it! It's not funny!" and gets upset and runs out of the room, I feel for her. And her slowly walking to the phone and standing there staring at the key to all her answers...what courage to walk away!
I wish we had seen Mr. Ramsey in later episodes.
Me too! Where was he at least for her graduation??
It feels weird to see Tootie for nine years and only once, very early on, do we see her father.
It's always seemed just as odd to me that we never meet Tootie's mother until after the golden age of the show has passed...after four years! She never got to be in the cafeteria. :(
Here he seems like an attentive father. But we do not get that impression from later episodes.
I dunno, in "Let's Party" you feel very glad you are not her brother Marshal having to call their dad! lol
Me too! Although they really didn't cover much actual sex education in this sex education class, to be honest.
Haha  Kind of like on The Facts of Life, it took them about 9 years to finally broach---the facts of life!
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 12:37 PM Hmmmm.... Is it possible that this was the notorious episode that was re-taped? And maybe they didn't re-tape it in front of a full audience? Maybe just some of the crew, seated in the seats?
Oooo, what's the story behind that? Why was one show "notorious" for getting re-taped? lol
But yes, it sure sounds like it from beyond the 4th wall!
RetroGuy2000 08-27-2018, 12:59 PM And it took up 2 scenes! 2 scenes! I LOVE that! Cindy gets one of the most in-depth Mrs. Garrett heart-to-hearts ever! :D
That's a great point! It's a very thorough heart-to-heart.
Hahaha...don't forget those 8-tracks when you wanna impress the ladies! ;)
Hahaha! The 8-tracks, the orange van, Steve's haircut, the pink shag carpet in the van...
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 01:07 PM That's a great point! It's a very thorough heart-to-heart.
The "thoroughest!" lol...Cindy and Mrs. Garrett have such a heavy heart-to-heart that they have to be interrupted by a commercial break! Such an honor!
Hahaha! The 8-tracks, the orange van, Steve's haircut, the pink shag carpet in the van...
OMG you're right! The van is orange! I went back to the season 1 props/sets/decor thread share a pic here because I was certain it was white! But it's orange! Boy, am I glad I checked, rechecked, and checked again!

In one of the documentaries, they mention that one of the first season shows had to be completely re-taped. (They use this as a rationale for reducing the cast).

Hmm, interesting...
RetroGuy2000 08-27-2018, 03:25 PM Hmm, interesting...
By the way, great job on the van memory! (see above)
Oh, no. My memory is terrible. I checked the episode before I posted!

 Well, you get an Eastland star for honesty! :D
RetroGuy2000 08-27-2018, 03:34 PM Are you sure you can't be convinced to do a ranking, '80s? Even for uber-Facts fans who desperately want to see your list?
'80sSitcoms 08-27-2018, 03:41 PM Are you sure you can't be convinced to do a ranking, '80s? Even for uber-Facts fans who desperately want to see your list?
Well, I could possibly try. I just still feel I can't fairly rank them in an honest order, even with only 13. But I could try.
RetroGuy2000 08-27-2018, 03:45 PM YAY! *looks forward to list*
RetroGuy2000 08-27-2018, 06:18 PM Plus, it's the one time we see Mr. Bradley and Miss Mahoney come bursting into Mrs. Garrett's room from her "bathroom"!
That scene is so odd. That door should lead to either a closet or bathroom. Why wouldn't Miss Mahoney and Mr. Bradley use the commons room door? Why would there even be a second entrance to Mrs. Garrett's room? For that matter, why is that door never used again, if it's a legitimate entrance?
I suspect it was actually a closet, and Miss Mahoney and Mr. Bradley were getting cozy in there. Then, they pop out and quickly deflect attention to an "emergency" regarding the girls spending money quickly. Notice how quickly they exit Mrs. G's room. And that might explain why Miss Mahoney's hair is so bedraggled... and why, soon after, she left Eastland so mysteriously.
Lorimar Television 08-27-2018, 06:44 PM Right?? UGH, I hate that too---I like Molly, and I want her friend Cindy to be there with her! At least she did get to be there for her up in her room, but still, I hate that she (and Nancy) leave the entire campus, indeed, even the town!
I know. Atleast Cindy got the line, "Get your fanny down here!"
Hahaha  He really was! Yet, you don't hate him (at least, I don't, lol); it's a different interesting look at his character, for sure.
Nope, I didn't. His rationale was that of a coach but he forgets that they have to live together
Just her visual reaction alone when Tumpy stone-edly says, "You don't hit it, it hits youuuuu!" and Tootie leans back with that judging look on her face,
LOL I know. I also liked the line, "She's too young"... "To burn jelly beans?!"
"I.Q." is your favorite, interesting...I'm sure it's Felice's favorite, too! lol
Yep! I just really liked the way the girls bounced off each other. Especially during the IQ reveal scene. I kinda like that the lost girls are the primary focus, Blair isn't seen after the first commercial break and Nat only had a few lines. Tootie was just really funny in the episode and I love how the girls try to "comfort" Sue Ann. This was the first episode I ever saw I believe, so maybe that's why it holds a special place in my heart. I think if I were Felice I might've preferred 'Gossiping' but she wasn't a regular so who knows?

Hahaha...I personally don't like a Bradley/Mahone romance, but if you want "ro'fan'ticize" one, that is your prerogative, lol.
As for the door, in my fan universe, that is the housemother's "powder room".
Also, don't you dare make an excuse for that abomination they call a hairdo! It's "hair"rendous even before that scene, lol.
Lorimar Television 08-27-2018, 07:05 PM LMAO yeah Miss Mahoney's hair was very bad

Oh my gosh, Lorimar...Blair isn't seen AT ALL in the second act?? WHOA---you're right!! When she jazzes at herself in the mirror and then runs upstairs, that's it! Wow, this must be the least Blair-present episode of the entire first season! That's fascinating, Lorimar---great job catching that!
:yourock:
And speaking of "the girls trying to comfort Sue Ann", my favorite is Molly: "Sue Ann, don't feel bad just 'cause you're the stupidest girl in scoo-uhl!" One of her funniest lines in the whole series!
Well, don't tell Felice, but I'm kind of bothered when she's yelling at Blair, just because of the frequency/pitch/decibel her voice gets at, lol. It kind of makes me cringe a bit because it's so intense, eek!

Lorimar Television 08-30-2018, 10:31 PM Just finished watching season 2 so Im gonna rank the eps once again from least fav to most fav. I combined the 2 parters as 1 ep in my ranking. This list is a bit harder because the eps were good for the most part but I'll try my best.
14. Brian and Sylvia- Not a bad ep tbh, but obviously it was just a backdoor pilot. Mrs G, Blair, and Jo were only in 1 scene.
13. Pretty Babies- As great as it is to see Nancy it wasn't enough to be a good ep.
12. Free Spirit
11. Bought and Sold
10. Who Am I?
9. Teenage Marriage 1/2
8. Shoplifting- Very memorable ep
7. Breaking Point- Probably the most dramatic so far of the series
6. Double Standard
5. Cousin Gerri
4. New Girl 1/2- Nice introduction to Jo and great to see Molly one last time
3. The Secret- Interesting learning about Jo's father's past
2. Sex Symbol- Having Sue Ann, Cindy, and Nancy brings this ep up a lot, even though they sort of were being mean to Natalie. I'm sure Mrs. G had a talk with them later on about not believing everything they hear and had them make up. Nancy and Nat seemed fine in Pretty Babies.
1. Gossip- Anyone surprised this was my fav? What a fantastic ep. It almost could've been a season 1 ep with Nancy, Sue Ann, and Cindy having such a big part. I thought Nancy did well in this ep and it's probably her biggest storyline since Girls School on DS. I liked that Jo seemed to ref that Blair and Nancy were friends, so it sounds like they still hung out and she knew about their history together.

I agree that Gossip is the best episode of Season Two, for sure. It feels like a bit of a homecoming, with nearly every Lost Girl there. Only Molly was the lone hold-out, but she felt burned after her small role in The New Girl, Part 2. I don't blame her, but I wish she'd appeared here as well, just as a fan. It would have been great to see them all together again.
When you see Sue Ann and Cindy saying they won't tell anyone, you know they're going to tell everyone.
Sex Symbol was also a very good episode for the Lost Girls. It's one of my favorites, although I wish we'd gotten the scene where Mrs. G talks with Cindy, Sue Ann, and Nancy about gossiping. Still, well done, producers, bringing back nearly the whole original cast!
Pretty Babies is quite good, and I loved seeing Nancy there. But I wish there had been more to her role in that episode. Still, seeing her was a highlight of that episode.
The New Girl part 2 ranks highly for me, just for Molly's appearance, and the cafeteria scene.
Brian and Sylvia is not good. I never liked those backdoor pilot episodes. If they were going to do a backdoor pilot, it should have been "Eastland Academy", where Mr. Bradley and Miss Mahoney try to deal with four Eastland girls, over at the dorm common room set.
Lorimar Television 09-03-2018, 09:09 PM I agree that Gossip is the best episode of Season Two, for sure.
Lol yep

I disagree, just because the girls are mean to their friend. :(

That at least would have made up for the earlier behavior.

Agreed with EA, but I really like B&S because I vividly remember watching that one in syndication as a child, and it's unique in that we get to see Natalie and Tootie go off away from campus, instead of Blair and Jo (and also neat to have Blair and Jo just in a little beginning scene).
RetroGuy2000 09-03-2018, 10:27 PM I disagree, just because the girls are mean to their friend. :(
If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure Mrs. Garrett spoke with them about it afterwards. And Natalie clearly forgave them. After all, they did maintain at least six more years of friendship.
And let's not forget: Jo and Blair weren't very nice to Natalie, either. Their laughing is even what got Natalie to pretend to be promiscuous in the first place.
Even Tootie's defense of Natalie is problematic in some ways. She claimed that Natalie is as pure as the driven snow. But how could she know this for certain? Certainly not by anything Natalie was saying. What if Natalie had been promiscuous? Would Tootie have been horrified? Why is that okay? Just because Natalie is a girl in the 1980s doesn't mean she couldn't experiment, just as Blair, Sue Ann, and Nancy had. And if Natalie had become another "Home Run Helen", would Tootie have abandoned their friendship? Her answer to the Lost Girls isn't a defense of what Natalie is or isn't doing; it's a denial of what Natalie has indicated she is doing in front of Nancy, Sue Ann, and Cindy.

Well, they could have done the same with Eastland Academy: Jo and Blair only appear in the opening scene, and then Natalie and Tootie go over to the dorm to get some cheese dip (which I know will make you hungry!). Once there, they see Nancy, Cindy, Molly, and Sue Ann, along with Mr. Bradley and Miss Mahoney. They have many great adventures with their friends. And then, in the final scene, they eat the cheese dip. Freeze frame on them all enjoying the cheese dip together, as Natalie tips over her glass of juice. ;)
Lorimar Television 09-04-2018, 03:30 AM Yeah everyone was mean to Nat, we just saw resolution with the main 4 because they're main characters. Like I said Nancy and Natalie seem fine in Pretty Babies. I just rewatched Front Page today and Natalie, as well as Jo, interacted with Sue Ann and Cindy and seemed to be fine with them. Side note: Sue Ann looks really good in FP, her hairstyle was beautiful.

Yes, clearly they made up. Natalie likely even realized, after her Mrs. G-patented heart-to-heart, that she caused the situation to get out of control.
Side note: Sue Ann looks really good in FP, her hairstyle was beautiful.
I agree about Sue Ann in Front Page. Her hair is amazing, there. My goodness. In an era full of hair don'ts, Sue Ann bucked the trend when it came to hair care.

I'll come back here when I finish "Dope". I think it's safe to say "Flash Flood" is #1 and "Needlebutt's Holiday" is #13. It's the ones in between I got to sort out.
Lorimar Television 06-11-2020, 06:48 PM Looking this over my taste has definitely changed in the last 2 years! I think I would rank s1 differently now:
13. Adoption
12. The Return of Mr. Garrett
11. Rough Housing
10. Overachieving
9. Like Mother, Like Daughter
8. Emily Dickinson
7. Molly's Holiday
6. The Facts of Love
5. Flash Flood
4. Dieting
3. Running
2. Dope

I don't know if I'll re-rank my picks, but looking at my list, I can see that a few have moved around a bit, too. But I think largely, we're in agreement, Lorimar. "Running", "Dieting", and "Dope" are among the best; "The Return of Mr. Garrett", "Overachieving", and "Adoption" are not nearly as good.

That surprises me about you guys. O is a Tootie episode, and everybody loves little Tootie, lol (season 1 little Tootie, I mean). And in RoMG she's the poker honcho while Blair and your all's SUE ANN speak to Mrs. Garrett about her adult relationship. lol
RetroGuy2000 06-12-2020, 10:20 AM That surprises me about you guys. O is a Tootie episode, and everybody loves little Tootie, lol (season 1 little Tootie, I mean). And in RoMG she's the poker honcho while Blair and your all's SUE ANN speak to Mrs. Garrett about her adult relationship. lol
Not enough Lost Girls action for me. And while Tootie is adorable, as always, I feel little connection to "Rifle" Ramsey, since he never appears again. Similarly, we never see Mr. Garrett again; these characters, intentionally or not, become one-offs: the equivalent to "Alli-kins".
These characters would have more resonance if we saw them later in the series, but because we do not, it feels a little odd. So while I very much enjoy these episodes, they can't compete with "Running", they feel thinner than "Dieting", and they hit less hard than "Dope" (although "Dope" hits yoooouuuuuu...)

True. I like though how we see the parents in our minds when they're mentioned or acknowledged, such as when Tootie asks the operator to call collect or person-to-person to "Mr. Harrison Ramsey". You see his mustached countenance in your mind and you just know he is NOT going to happy with what his son has to tell him!

Oh, sure. But I wish they had come back to the show in later seasons. Is it really believable that Mr. Ramsey would miss every other event in his daughter's life? Even her graduation?
And while we don't see Mr. Garrett again, and that's more believable, I would have LOVED to have had an episode where we see Raymond, Alex, and Mr. Garrett all together.

Yes the girls arent in ROMG enough for me, Adoption is a weak storyline, and OA is cute but also light on most of the cast
valentina warner 06-12-2020, 08:03 PM Okay here it goes for me:
1. 'Rough housing':ice breaker between MRS G and BLAIR, when the 'feisty ginger haired' housemother teaches the rich princess about appearances.
2. Like mother like daughter':first heart to heart talk between MRS G and BLAIR.
3. 'Dope': first and last introduction to the character TUMPY, who could have made some more 'guest appearance' had there been any chances...
4. 'The fact of love': BLAIR only moment as a loose girl with the heart of gold, who in the end decides to be wise!!!
5. 'I.Q': MISS MAHONEY's last episode and the best!!! (what a shame they let her go!!!)
6. 'Emily Dickinson': i love to see BLAIR cheat and TOOTIE blackmail her, as her White maid!!!
7.flash flood': BLAIR crushes on MR BRADLEY only reaffirms how typical it is for a teenage girl to fall for her teacher!!!
8. 'Molly's holiday': it was heartbreaking to see BLAIR trying to comfort little MOLLY about her parents divorce, when obviously our 'rebel with the heart of gold' was going through the same thing...
9. The return of Mr Garret: it was a MRS G episode and a very dynamic one!!!!
10. 'Running': a very intense moment between two best friends!!!!
11.'Adoption': a NATALIE episode, and once again BLAIR tried her best to cheer up her young friend by contacting her real mother.....
12. 'dieting': SUE ANN learns a lesson about self confidence!!!!
13. 'Overachieving': is my least favourite even TOOTIE was a star, but the whole thing with her father wanting to take her out of school at such a tender age seemed kind of dumb!!!!
RetroGuy2000 06-12-2020, 08:21 PM Good picks, Valentina!
Like you, "Rough Housing", "Dope", and "The Facts of Love" rank high for me, and like you, "Overachiving" and "Adoption" are much lower.
cfr1970 06-13-2020, 01:26 PM Finally my Season 1 ranking!
1. Flash Flood---The whole episode is loads of fun and it’s a full ensemble where everyone front and center with no one being wallpaper. I wish every episode of the season was like this one.
2. I.Q.---Another one where we see many of the girls front and center and nosy Tootie in control of the IQ scores steals the scenes.
3. Emily Dickenson--It’s a fun episode where our “rebel with a heart of gold” learns not to copy from dead people with bad hair.
4. Running---Even though I despise Mr. Bradley in this one, the episode is still fun just to see Blair get sucker punched in the face.
5. The Return of Mr. Garrett---Just for Tootie the Card Shark makes this one a winner.
6. Like Mother, Like Daughter---Lisa Whelchel shines when our “Rebel with a Heart of Gold” rebels against her flirty Mom when she gets cozy with pervy Mr. Bradley.
7. Rough Housing---It’s a good episode where Mrs. G works her magic on two of her girls...Blair & Cindy.
8. Dieting---I like it but none of those girls needed to diet...well, maybe Natalie, but she’s “fappy”.:happyface
9. Dope---Nat & Tootie steal the whole episode with their bong gift to Mrs. G.
10. The Facts of Love---It’s ok, but teen sex education just isn’t my thing lol.
11. Overacheiving---Tootie has a mean Dad and I like her Mom a lot more.
12. Adoption---Too early for Mindy to carry an episode.
13. Molly’s Holiday---Blair really shined in this one. That’s the only nice thing I can say.:wave:

I don't despite Mr. Bradley in that one, but I do get very disappointed and irked by him. Thank goodness he comes around at the end!

*ahem*, that is Cindy & Blair. She works her magic on CINDY first. ;)

:yeahthat
They really should not have done this episode because I can see it messing with perfectly healthy girls' minds and body images. If they were going to do it, I think they should have gone all the way to an eating disorder. Then it would "make sense" why a perfectly healthy slim, trim girl is overdieting. At least they were kind of heading in that direction as the episode went on.

Why would I be eating crow over someone's opinion? Ya know since you keep mentioning my name, I'm going to respond to some facts now.
When cfr was watching one of my favorite seasons of the show, he had lost girls fans bashing it and name calling characters. When he was watching season one, I didn't bother replying because it's his opinion on how he feels about the season. The bigger person just lets someone else form an opinion on something without forcing them to have theirs.
I notice while he was watching season 1, cfr was feeling uncomfortable sharing his opinions about Molly. He never once felt that way when I would reply to his reviews of season 8. Even before he started season 1 he was nervous about whether his opinions would match the lost girls fans here. True fans of something do not continually force their views on someone the way the lost girls fans do here. You guys proved my point about how miserable lost girls fans make it sometimes to post here because our opinions will be different than yours.
No matter what anyone thinks now, it doesn't matter because we're 40 years...oh that number sounded horrible ohno:... too late. The lost girls didn't have fans back then. If they did, they would have wrote and complain the way the Star Trek fans did then or how soap opera fans did back in the day to keep a character on they like. Dark Shadows from 1966 had a vampire character that was only supposed to be a 13 week story. Fans wrote in how they liked him and wanted him to be a regular. The creator listened and the actor stayed on the show until the end. If lost girls were so loved, this would have happened back in season 2. However, it didn't. Nancy McKeon took over the lost girls role and became a hit with the fans. We should all accept and move on.

It did get uncomfortable there for a minute, and I was all ready to just pull out and stop at one point, but i'm glad I went on and finished it. I just came to the conclusion that if anyone didn't like it then screw em lol. They wanted me to not hold back and that's exactly what they got. So if you don't like it, don't read it.
Even though I enjoyed watching it, i'm glad i'm finished with that season because at times it was like navigating through a landmine. If I pick this girl as a favorite, the fans of that girl will be upset, or if I choose this episode over that one......ahhhh it can drive you nuts trying not to offend anyone!!
I do really like the season, but it was harder to review over others since the fans here are so passionate about those particular episodes....but I got through unscathed and i'm a little relieved to be onto season 2 now and if I bash early Jo with her angry, Fonzie like ways, nobody will bat an eye.
To be fair though, many here didn't mind my needling of "Needlebutt" and even gleefully embraced the name I gave her. So most did know that it was all in good fun! :happyface

I saw. Imagine if you were like me who doesn’t care for season 1? You’d be called out on the boards like I am and having members hound your opinion because it’s not like theirs. It’s like 2000 all over again with the Nancy / Jo fanatics  I’m glad you enjoy season 1. I like the change they made in season 2. For me, The Facts of Life will always be Mrs. Garrett and the core 4.

I like season 1 for what it is. It's light, breezy and fun, and it's nice to see Blair, Natalie & Tootie at their very beginnings. I do agree though that Jo's arrival signaled the "real" start of Facts of Life. For me, it's just the marker where the show began. But that should take nothing away from the "Lost Girls" season though which is good in it's own right...but in a lot of ways, it feels like a completely different show imo.
I think if this board were filled with Jo fanatics, I wouldn't like that because there's quite a lot to bash about Jo and i'd probably be clobbered by them all. In contrast, the only thing I dislike about season 1 was Molly and judging from the polls, she doesn't seem to have many hardcore fans here.
Can you all just imagine if I hated Sue Ann or Cindy?! OMG i'd be tarred and feathered and ran off the boards!!

I was here in 2000 as a guest before registering. The Jo fanatics are not that different than how the lost girls fans act like. They both shove their opinions down your throat left and right. When you like something they don’t, they make fun of it. They both come up with “facts” that the show was better or a hit either way. None of them truly cherish the show though and they don’t seem to respect others point of view.
If you hated Sue Ann, you would be treated like me. You’d have a character you like get made fun of and try getting persuaded to like their way instead. That’s why I stopped posting on here. It just gets too much. It’s not that fun posting on here anymore because your opinion maybe different and that’s not what they want here.
'80sSitcoms 06-14-2020, 03:55 PM It doesn't help that this is all in "text". There have been some unintentional misundertandings and mischaracterizations in various discussions around here, so it's a shame we're all not just sitting around a big table talking instead of typing digital characters, lol. But I don't think anyone here is willing to host all of us in their home for discussions (although it'd be nice if cfr did, because he has humidity and ducks).
Oh well, the important thing is we're all fans of the show and get what we get out of it. :)
'80sSitcoms 06-14-2020, 04:03 PM The lost girls didn't have fans back then.
They did have some fans back then.
I wouldn't expect kids or teens to write into a show. Maybe some teens, but not a lot. But that probably wouldn't have helped anyway because they had already formulated the new concept of the show. And unfortunately not all letter-writing campaigns for shows or characters by adults have worked.

I thought you stopped posting temporarily, because you said you were going away for a while to work on your digital sitcom projects, IIRC.

That’s what I posted here back then, but it wasn’t the truth. A certain member here kept complaining about my posts. I wasn’t breaking any rules here from what I was told. I was just posting my opinion. I decided a break from the FOL board would be best. If my name wasn’t constantly mention, I would still be on a break from here since it’s not that friendly here.

Please come back Christopher: i have missed reading your reviews and opinions, and you shouldn't let anyone upset you for any comments they write. After all, it's free to post, so just ignore the negative posts????:welcome::welcome::welcome:

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one, cfr1970: the REAL FACTS OF LIFE began right with the pilot 'The girls school' which was a spin-off from DIFFERENT STROKES!!!! (JO had nothing to do with it)....
In fact: if i hadn't accidentally discovered FOL through the one episode on DS 'The girls school' (which the introduction of the 'Lost girls' and BLAIR) then i would have NEVER even bothered starting with season 2!!!! Period!!!!

Yes, we do which is why we discuss the Lost Girls and the episodes that they are in (counting the Season 2, 3 they appear in, plus the Little Chill) more than other episodes. And this is the most active board out of hundreds on sitcomsonline.com
Lorimar Television 06-14-2020, 05:46 PM I'm sorry Christopher I was just having some fun, we know you hate s1 and the lost girls and that's fine. Re-reading my post it did come off as rude and I regret it, please accept my apology.

HAHA all the Sue Fann's would get ya! ;) But I'm glad you liked her and had no issues with your reviews, even when Sue Ann was a jealous old hayseed!

About The Girls school? Yes I do.
'80sSitcoms 06-14-2020, 06:25 PM PS: don't you agree with me, Lost girls fans?????
To a degree. I mean yeah, for me FOL begins with "The Girls' School" because that's its origin and where I started seeing it, but I do acknowledge that for many fans "The New Girl" is where it the show "begins".

This CINDY fan wouldn't "get him", because there are plenty of girls to love, and that just means more Cindy love for me, lol. :loveya:

As Mrs. Garrett said to Blair in Gamma Gamma or Bust, "next time we have a childish argument, let's do it in a more adult manner." I'm sorry too guys. With all the hate in the world, we should learn better than to act out over a show :grouphug: Now as Tootie says, "There's peace in the valley. Isn't this wonderful? Everybody's happy. I call this diplomacy in action" :D Yes, I'm watching this episode right now :)

Well said Christopher and now you get a hug from me!!!!:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
'Gamma gamma' is actually my favourite episode: it's a MRS G vs BLAIR focused one and their first fight, and when they make up it's really wonderful as TOOTIE says!!!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug:
