A few years back, VH1 aired The Best of American Bandstand, which was a rerun package of some of the best episodes from the series. However, these were only edited to 30 minute installments instead of a full hour as each episode originally aired. Was this due to music clearances, or simply that VH1 wanted to only air these shows in a half-hour format?

Making matters worse, for the 1986–87 season, ABC reduced Bandstand from a full hour to 30 minutes; at Clark's request, the 2,751st and final ABC installment (with Laura Branigan performing "Shattered Glass") aired on September 5, 1987.
So it might be the same version that aired, though I could be wrong.

Actually, none of the episodes from the 1986-87 season aired on VH1, all of these airings were edited from originally hour-long episodes.

Ah. Then sorry about that.
