Barry Livingston said in his book that William Demarest was having trouble remembering his lines towards the end of the show’s run. You can still be sharp in conversation and not be able to memorize a whole script. Those are different skill sets.

I skipped the Estelle Winwood part--you're right, Demarest sounds fine. He's as alert as anyone, sharp as a tack. 87 years old--wow! He shows no sign of dementia, and I have family knowledge of dementia/Alz.

He made that same coodley coo coo coo sound he did with the triplets on M3S.

As far as Livingston goes, I'm sure he never missed a line. Yeah, right.
