“We miss natural history and we are absolutely engaging and looking at ways to bring it back in a big way on Discovery," says Nancy Daniels, who joined as Discovery Channel's chief brand officer in March tasked with doing a "turnaround job." "One of the things that we’ve found is that there are two areas that our audience feel haven’t been fully explored: space and the oceans. Those feel like the final frontiers so we’re definitely looking, from a natural history perspective, where are those stories. “I’m (also) excited to do live events. I don’t know what they are, give me a beat but we are constantly talking about it."

Exactly. Discovery Channel does need to focus more of natural history because it much like back the mid to late 1990s when Wild Discovery was airing in Primetime during The Channel’s prime years.

The History Channel should do the same thing and show actual history again.

When Discovery Channel was launched in 1985 it's mission was originally designed to teach people all about educational stuff in the world of science and nature and history and with a very interesting format Discovery Channel was a winner with a strong audience and for it's educational value teachers used Discovery Channel a lot in their elementary schools and high schools as students homework assignments. But with reality shows becoming hugely popular Discovery Channel decided to change it's image and added reality shows and game shows and with shows like Deadlest Catch and Shark Week this new image showed that Discovery Channel would work miracles by getting a new audience that these shows would be a bonafide hit. But when Discovery Channel added game shows like Cash Cab they knew that game shows were an ingenious success for the channel and Cash Cab became an instant bonafide hit and won awards at the Emmys. But when they created several channels like Discovery Health and Discovery Kids "Now Discovery Family Channel" and even launched Discovery Channel Stores that are found in malls throughout the country Discovery Channel knew that they were the biggest educational channel in cable TV next to PBS. But I think by adding more natural history programming Discovery Channel will return to it's educational roots and gain a new audience and if they would show reruns of In Search Of.. or get reruns of the PBS science show NOVA Discovery Channel would be worth watching
