It's really interesting what this show did with Audrey: they introduce her as a very morose, downtrodden, unlikable annoyance who we're not supposed to like much because Ellen Morgan finds her so annoying, but then out of guilt she lets her into her circle and then suddenly Audrey does this brief rapid change into a perky, pert, glass-always-half-full pink Pollyanna. Quite the difference from the Audrey we first meet in season 1!

True. While I bet the change had more to do with the writers thinking a perky annoyance would be funnier than a negative one, the only way I can think of her change, story-wise has to do with one thing. In the first season episode, she was married. When she returns to the series, there's no mention of a husband, and in fact later she dates Adam and eventually Ron Pallilo (TV's Horshack). So maybe it was her marriage that had her in such a negative way, and being free from that man, perked her right up.
