I mean Crystal Bernard didn't even bother to disguise/tone down her thick Texas twang even though Helen supposedly grew up on Nantucket Island. Plus, when Amy Yasbeck joined the cast as Helen's sister she didn't speak with Crystal's natural accent.

Honestly, I never paid attention to it. Helen was always my favorite character.

The creators wanted (https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/63525/13-things-you-might-not-know-about-wings) Peri Gilpin (https://www.history-a2z.com/a-blast-from-the-past-with-the-fantastic-cast-of-wings/47/), but Tartikoff didn’t think she was experienced enough. They obviously remembered Gilpin for Frasier (https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1994-04-17-tv-46814-story.html) a few years later.
