If you liked home improvement shows and shows that taught you how to build things for your home The New Yankee Workshop was for you. Airing in the 90's The New Yankee Workshop was part of a PBS lineup of home improvement shows that also included Hometime and This Old House this show taught you everything and anything you needed to learn about building incredible things for your home. Mom and I used to love watching The New Yankee Workshop because we thought the host built awesome stuff. It's a shame that The New Yankee Workshop no longer airs on PBS because it was a cool show and HGTV or DIY Network should air it in reruns someday soon

I never missed Norm Abram's show, from its start in 1989.

It was the opposite of The Woodwright's Shop, because on that show, Roy Underhill doesn't use electricity -- while Norm's workshop had about every power tool you could imagine...!

I remember watching the show in its original run because it looked interesting. He made everything look so easy. Then I read that some cuts etc. he seemed to make effortlessly in two minutes often took him 20 or 25 tries that they edited out so I lost interest. If he the expert failed 90% of the time what chance did a layman have?

It's a surprise you don't see shows like The New Yankee Workshop anymore because in this day and age people like to learn how to put simple things together such as bedroom sets nightstands bookcases and coffee tables and more. If PBS were to revive The New Yankee Workshop for the generation of today I bet people would like it
