"Friends" and Rita Moreno to be Recognized by TV Critics

The Television Critics Association has unveiled its honorees for its two most prestigious prizes ahead of its Aug. 4 ceremony.
The nonprofit group will honor "Friends" with its Heritage Award, while "One Day at a Time" star Rita Moreno will be feted with the TCA's Lifetime Achievement Award.
The recognition for "Friends" arrives ahead of the 25th anniversary of its premiere the beloved comedy is poised to celebrate next year. The series continues to be adored by critics.
"We're also excited to honor Friends with our Heritage Award,” TCA president Daniel Fienberg said. “A show that reshaped television comedy for a generation, Friends is nearing the 25th anniversary of its premiere, but we just couldn't wait to say 'We'll be there for you' a year early.”
The 34th annual awards will be presented Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Beverly Hilton, where 200 or so members of the press corps from across the country have gathered for the twice-yearly press tour.
Robin Thede, who hosted BET's "The Rundown", will host the ceremony.
