View Full Version : Why are stores promoting Back To School sales already?
Hawkee 07-27-2018, 02:01 AM When I have watched TV I have been noticing a lot of promotions for Back To School sales at stores and I can't figure out why stores are promoting Back To School sales already when Summer Vacation has barely started in June and kids are now out of school. Is it to give parents a jumpstart on buying their kids school supplies and school clothing to get the kids prepared for school in September? It used to be that Back To School sales were in September when kids were starting school and now that it's gonna be August I have seen Back To School sales at stores more than ever than any holiday or Christmas combined. Are kids now starting school now in July and August and so the stores have Back To School sales to get kids ready for school?

mets82 07-27-2018, 11:14 AM One reason. To aggravate kids.:D
I used to hate when they would promote Back To School. It's like when they promote Summer Reading or they say in June "see you on August or September whatever." Can't the kids enjoy there summer? How many years do kids have to be kids?
School starts here Aug. 8th so Back to School store promotions have begun. We also have a tax free weekend for school supplies, clothes, shoes, computers, etc. that started today and goes until midnight Sunday. I think there's a price limit on some of the items and it will be almost as bad as black friday at all the stores.
80sTrivia 07-27-2018, 07:43 PM The schools in my area start classes next Friday.
I don't get why school is starting really early this year.
MrCleveland 08-09-2018, 02:47 PM And stores are already selling Halloween Candy!
What next...putting-up Christmas stuff after Labor Day?

It seems that way.
IllinoisTVFan 08-12-2018, 09:51 PM Why do kids start so early? If I recall, we usually got out a week after Memorial Day unless it was especially snowy and we had days to make up. I remember several years going way into June. We then went back a week before Labor Day which I thought was stupid because we usually only went in a couple of days before we had a three day weekend. Yes, sales are always earlier, I suppose so people can buy a little at a time? If I recall, when I was in school, we bought things like clothes, lunch boxes and backpacks before school started and supplies the day after we started. Years later I started my first day at my retail job ironically the same day I started college and we already had Halloween set up!
In Texas, school is about to start in a week, or less.
When I was in school, it would always start in late August and never in September after Labor Day. As for getting out, it depended on how many snow days we had along with making them up.
icecream 08-13-2018, 01:22 PM Several schools have already started, they come back a lot earlier than they used to.

We always used to start after Labor Day until I entered high school...then after that it just became earlier and earlier... they're starting August 27 where I am which isn't too bad in all honesty. Could be a lot worse (like now.)
MrCleveland 08-13-2018, 03:05 PM I usually started school the week before Labor Day.
Pretty soon, there may be NO Summer Vacation...maybe a week of on Independence Day...and that's it!
Where I live, my school district got out really late this year due to all of the snow days we had.
Mr. Television 08-13-2018, 06:57 PM We always let out the second week in June and went back the last Wednesday in August.

Same here, our schools ended on the 2nd week of June, but did not start again till the week after Labor Day.
I grew up school started in September, nowadays students return to school in late August.

We used to go back the Wednesday before the first HS football game. School starts in my town next week. That is too early.
PhoenixAcres 08-13-2018, 09:32 PM Schools around here are starting later this week.
Torgo 08-13-2018, 10:55 PM Around here it's always been the day after Labor Day, even when I was a kid, it's never changed.
Coffeecup 08-17-2018, 08:15 PM It seems all the stores are starting earlier with items to sell. A family member of mine went to a store to look at beach umbrellas. The store he went to said we aren't selling anymore and on the shelves were halloween items.
So, it looks like school may be happening after Labor Day in the future where I am.
