Former Obama speechwriter Jon Lovett discussed his short-lived 2012-13 sitcom (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS-vy4phBqs) starring Josh Gad, Bill Pullman and Jenna Elfman while promoting his new Pod Save America HBO special. Lovett, who co-created 1600 Penn, said critics called the characters "too zany" and unbelievable. “In hindsight, we did not realize it should have been a dark moody drama on HBO,” he joked.

I actually remember watching a few episodes of that show. It doesn't matter when it would've aired it wouldn't have stayed on the air because it just wasn't funny period.
