View Full Version : "The Slumber Party" (DS) - a smorgasbord of screencaps
'80sSitcoms 07-22-2018, 01:56 AM In season 2 of Diff'rent Strokes, episode 24, "The Slumber Party", four of our girls from The Facts of Life guest starred as guests of a slumber party with Kimberly (it was originally to be held at Molly's house, but plans had to change).
And here, much more than I realized I was gonna take (I got on a high of seeing our girls on their parent show, and seeing them in this rare appearance, lol), are tons of screencaps from that crossover.
One of the most stand-out things---check out Cindy's Eastland hoodie! Awesome!

That Eastland hoodie indeed is awesome. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it!
Are there any shots of Tootie's skates?
I always liked the FOL/DS crossovers, and I wish there had been many, many more. After all, if network execs were worried about "servicing ten, twelve girls" (a bad choice of words, anyway), surely bringing a few of them over to DS on a regular basis would have helped the audience to get to know each girl.
On a related note, I am absolutely dying to see the episode of Hollywood Squares when part of the cast visited. But I can find it nowhere... :(

Ahh, you snuck a reply in here during my posting-fest, lol...yes, it's amazing they made this hoodie for her not for her own show, but just this one guest appearance! What a great retro item that would make in a catalogue nowadays!

As you may have seen by now, yes, they are her blue skates.

Right?? It is a shame they didn't do more than they did. We discussed once about bringing the Drummonds to the grand opening of EE; that would have been "grand" indeed!
Willis is really annoying in this episode. Poor Kimberly, she was trying to compromise, and find a solution, but he stubbornly refused to listen. He even implied she was lying! ("Daddy said to compromise!" "How do I know that's what he said?? I wasn't on the phone!") That won't be pretty in the morning when they all talk this over with Mr. Drummond (as Mr. D states at the end of the episode) and Kimberly explains to him she did try to compromise, and he would not budge.
I love "tough Cindy" in this: "If you're lookin' for a fight Willis, you're gonna get it." Ooooooo! lol...you go, Cinds!

Yes, I got a live feed of your post-a-thon!

Yep, I agree. A few years ago, some uniforms from the show came up for auction; they included an Eastland uniform worn by Heather McAdam and Julie Anne's track suit. But I never saw a hoodie!
I wonder why we never saw it at Eastland... it would have been useful when Cindy was out in the rain!
As you may have seen by now, yes, they are her blue skates.
Aha! I knew I had seen those bright blue skates before! And I don't believe they are the same ones as the dark blue-gray ones seen in "Another Room" or in your previous screenshots: they are a much brighter blue. What do you think?

Haha! He deserved that, and so much more!
RetroGuy2000 07-22-2018, 04:50 PM So, I just realized something. Since the girls were going to stay at Molly's, then they dropped by the Drummonds' penthouse in Manhattan, that must mean Molly lives nearby, also in NYC, and likely also in Manhattan.
I don't believe we ever knew this about her character. Funny that we would learn this tidbit about a FOL character from an episode that... isn't actually even FOL!

She wasn't in the rain, and it's not really "rain-friendly" anyway, being fabric (she'd be better off in rainy weather with an umbrella or raincoat). It would be more useful on chilly spring days or crisp fall days, and indeed, "The Slumber Party" aired in March.
Aha! I knew I had seen those bright blue skates before! And I don't believe they are the same ones as the dark blue-gray ones seen in "Another Room" or in your previous screenshots: they are a much brighter blue. What do you think?
Looking at them again, I think you're right, and these are indeed brighter/lighter blue; yet another pair of skates!
Haha! He deserved that, and so much more!
Definitely a point on which we do wholeheartedly agree!

Right? And also, that she has a brother!
And I wonder what Felice thought about this episode? Since she originally had the role of Kimberly, yet some of her FOL co-stars got to guest start on this show on its main set, while she never did.
I wish the slumber party had gotten to stay at Molly's, and that we got to see it there. Maybe alternating scenes with the girls talking about things at Molly's while the boys talk about things at the Drummonds'. That would have been such a great treat for "Facts" fans!
