Wynonna Earp simply doesn't have the funding to film Seasons 4 and 5, despite Syfy's renewal (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/wynonna-earp-inside-fight-save-syfys-cult-hit-1194940)
Producers IDW Entertainment is "struggling to find the capital to justify filming a promised fourth and fifth season," reports The Hollywood Reporter's Jessica Toomer, adding: "While the company has negotiated a deal with Syfy to air the series in the U.S., that agreement leaves IDW still footing major production costs. What's worse, while IDW has managed to house the first two seasons on Netflix, taking care of its international licensing needs and generating enough capital to cover the costs of previous seasons, there are no deals as of yet for a third, fourth or fifth season to be licensed to the streaming platform. So, what does all of this mean? In a nutshell: That IDW isn't in a place financially to continue supporting Wynonna Earp."

Syfy's "Wynonna Earp" To Begin Production on Season 4 for 2020 Premiere
by Nellie Andreeva
July 2, 2019
IDW Entertainment, in partnership with Syfy, Space and Seven24 Films, said today that production on "Wynonna Earp" Season 4 is scheduled to begin later this year for premiere in summer 2020 on Syfy in the U.S. and Space in Canada.
That will make for a two-year gap between seasons 3 and 4.

After securing the necessary funding for the long-delayed Season 4, the Wynonna Earp team will visit Comic-Con later this month and reconvene in November to prepare to begin shooting in January, with a premiere set for summer 2020. Emily Andras, who created the Syfy adaptation and serves as its showrunner, says she had to deal with a number of issues during the unexpected hiatus, such as the contracts lapsing for four key cast members, including Wynonna herself: Melanie Scrofano. Thankfully, the process to put together new deals went smoothly, and Andras expects nearly everybody to be back. “Everyone involved with Wynonna Earp recognizes how special the show and the audience behind it is,” Andras says. “Once in a lifetime, really. So without getting into specifics, I can say, most if not all of your favorites will be back on your screen — or working hard behind the scenes — for season four.” Andras also says that Earpers' fight to save the show has inspired her to revise her Season 4 plans. “The #FightForWynonna rally cry has emboldened me to incorporate even more resistance and empowerment themes into the upcoming season,” she says. “Without a doubt, the priority is reuniting Wynonna Earp with her dysfunctional posse of family, friends, and former foes. More than anything, our fans want to see this beloved cast of characters working and loving and living together, and that’s what we’ll aim to put onscreen.”
