So you may remember Tootie having "a pair of" roller skates in season 1?

Or if you're a super fan, you might remember 2 or even 3?

Well, Tootie wore no less than 4 pairs of skates in 13 episodes of season 1! That's right, 4!

She also apparently wore a 5th pair, on the Diff'rent Strokes crossover episode "The Slumber Party".

If you had asked me I would have said she a white pair, and I maybe would have have remembered the tan pair, but she had a blue pair which some people remember, and also a red pair! Who knew she she had so many skates?? lol

And of course with this being a thread of Tootie's skates, I had to include a shot of her skate pendant as well!

Great shots of various pairs of skates!

There is definitely a blue pair, and I believe they are the kind that covers the ankle, so they are not the dark-bluish ones shown in your screenshot above (if indeed that is blue at all).

The blue ones I remember, I believe, are a pair they show in the attic, in a later-seasons episode.

Felice stated in the Entertainment Weekly interview that although only Tootie wore skates on the set, all the girls rollerskated around the set that first season. It's possible we are seeing other girls' skates on Tootie's feet.

It is, from "Overachieving"; you can really tell in the "deleted scene" when she's at her bureau.

Ahh...I wonder then if they were actual "Tootie skates", lol.

You'd think Tootie (or Kim, lol) would have about the smallest feet, though. And what with set blocking and walking on stairs and such, I'd hope she'd wear skates that fit her or at least very nearly almost fit her, lol.

I definitely didn't remember red!

I've included a photo in the first post of what I believe is the rare lone time we see Tootie interacting with her skates once she's out of the dorm.

Aha! I did find those skates, in episode 8-05, "Another Room". They are grayish-blue, and do match the blue-ish gray skates seen above. They even have the Adidas-style three stripes shown previously. I had mis-remembered them as being a brighter blue.

The "skate gallery" in the original post has now been amended to include a shot of Tootie in lighter blue skates on the Diff'rent Strokes crossover episode "The Slumber Party".

THANKS! But now the post doesn't mention the fact one of the pairs of rollerskates was actually on Diff'rent Strokes.

Wow what a fun set. Until half of them were fired and they became all business. :(

No silly, that last pic is from Instagram! It's a moment they captured of He-Man and Skeletor!

:p

Yes, Lorsie, that last pic in the original post is from the bedroom over the kitchen/cafeteria. ;) :D

I'm surprised you didn't know that! You just watched the whole series!

I don’t remember her having skates in s2? What Ep was it?

She doesn't wear them, but she does mess around with them. In one scene, they are on her bed, and she's oiling the wheels; you can see it above in the screenshot where Tootie's wearing the blue sweater.

LOL I know Retro, I figured she didn't wear them but I didn't remember any references to her skates in season 2. I thought they were considered a disgrace by the new writers. I was asking which episode the screenshot was from.

"Who Am I", 2-04, about 9 minutes in.

Oh cool! Nice they referenced her skating.

Yeah, FOL was usually better than most shows about continuity.

Tootie's no longer on roller skates, but she still oils the wheels on her roller skates, and they refer to her roller skates in later years. Likewise, half the cast is gone after the first season, but they allowed them to make occasional appearances for the sake of continuity. Even Howard, who only appears 4 times, gets mentioned in a later episode.

Usually, on 1980s sitcoms, if an actor left the show, he or she would just be gone. And if the producers didn't like a character trait, it would just be dropped with no explanation.

It's one of the reasons I will always love The Facts of Life. They were a cut above what other sitcoms were doing in that era. So we got an additional two seasons with occasional Lost Girls appearances, and we got references to Tootie's skates. We got flashbacks to the dorms, we got references to Howard, and we even got the glorious Return of the Lost Girls in Season Eight. When Tootie goes into the attic, she finds her skates. When Blair and Tootie discuss running, they mention Sue Ann. When Mrs. Garrett leaves the show, she's replaced by the sister already mentioned a decade earlier.

Yeah its very cool to see those references. I wish the lost girls got more but I'll take it.

I guess we'll have to take it!

But, yes. They could have given them three episodes each, per season. That would have been much more satisfying. We could see them graduate, and then come over to Edna's Edibles for quiche.
