The iconic home that served as the exterior of TV’s Brady Bunch is up for sale. But among those eyeing the property are developers who may consider tearing it down.

The house, located at 11222 Dilling Street in Studio City, CA., is listed for $1.85 million in the multiple listings service and just went on the market. The listing calls the property “the second-most photographed home in the United States,” after the White House.

The residence is two bedrooms with three bathrooms and has two master suites. It boasts 2477 square feet on a lot size approximately a third of an acre. The house is on sale for the first time in 45 years, having been bought by its current owners in 1973.

The Brady Bunch house is for sale for nearly $1.9 million, but could it be torn down? (https://deadline.com/2018/07/brady-bunch-house-for-sale-but-may-be-torn-down-1202429238/)
The listing for the Studio City home calls the two-bedroom, three-bathroom property “the second-most photographed home in the United States." “I have several buyers already interested,” realtor Jodie Levitus Francisco tells Deadline. “They’re developers for the lot size. They might tear down, but the listing agent said the family was hoping to get someone to preserve the house, and at $1.85, I don’t know if a developer would pay that much.” ALSO: The Brady Bunch house was last sold for $61,000 in 1973 (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/brady-bunch-house-sale-19m-1128404).

I hope the new owners of this historic television landmark are not going to tear down the famous Brady House, that would be heartbreaking for people who grew up watching this iconic sitcom.

I mentioned this before, on this site, that I always wanted to drive up to Los Angeles and take a picture of the Brady Home. I might make the trip this weekend since I am not too far from Studio City :)

As I mentioned in my post, I hope the new owners do not tear down the house, but I have a bad feeling that they will. Probably replaced the original property with an ugly McMansion which is pretty common in affluent areas in Southern California.

Hopefully, the new owners will not, but to answer your question, why would anyone destroy the Brady House? Indifference, greed, probably not fans of the show, etc.

I am not even a huge fan of The Brady Bunch would I would be heartbroken if the home is demolished.

If they do tear it down, I hope they use it as the location for one final Brady movie. “The Brady Bunch Returns: Marcia Vs. Jan” focuses on the events after Carol Brady’s funeral. Flaky estate executor Marcia wants to donate the property for a park, but Jan and greedy husband Philip want to sell out to a developer and grab the dough. The two battle for the property in a “War of the Roses” style scenario that results in the destruction of the house.

It was just a house. All they did with it was shoot the exterior for the establishing shots that we've all seen on TBB. They hung a fake window on the outside to make it seem like a two-story or split-level house. The interior of the house bears no relation to TBB house.

I don't know why they didn't use a house that more closely resembled TBB house interior. "All in the Family" did the same thing, sort of. They used a house for the establishing shot that kind of resembled the Bunker house, but that house didn't have a front porch, but the Bunker house did.

That sounds good. In fact, didn't Eve Plum make a few million of off a beach house she bought as a teenager? She could buy it and rent it out for people to live in for a week at a time.

Lance Bass says his Offer to Buy "The Brady Bunch" House has been "Accepted"
by Nick Romano
August 4, 2018

It would appear the iconic "Brady Bunch" house at 11222 Dilling Street in North Hollywood, California has found a new owner. While the final details of the headline-grabbing sale are still being worked out, former NSYNC member Lance Bass came out on Twitter to say his offer to buy has been “accepted.”

“Super excited to announce they accepted my offer on the #BradyBunch house last night!!!” Bass wrote on Friday. “This is going to be a fun project!”

Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia Brady, extended the sitcom family’s blessing to Bass.

“Congratulations! May all your problems from here on out always be solved in a half hour!” McCormick tweeted.

Bass responded with a promise the she “will most certainly be the first dinner guest!!” and McCormick accepted. “I would absolutely love that,” she wrote.

It also appears "Property Brother" Jonathan Silver Scott and EmSee rap battle app founder Gregory Storm were among the other bidders.

“I was planning to remodel the inside to match the #BradyBunch TV Show interior,” Storm tweeted to Bass. “If that’s what you also plan to do instead of tear it down, I’ll feel a little better about not having the highest offer. You’re not tearing it down right?”

Bass confirmed “that’s the plan” to remodel the interior and not alter the exterior, which also put a smile on McCormick’s face. She tweeted, “Love it!!! Are we going to be eating on Silver Platters???”

Lance Bass says a Hollywood studio screwed him out of his winning bid for The Brady Bunch house (https://deadline.com/2018/08/brady-bunch-house-lance-bass-hollywood-studio-buyer-winning-bid-1202440269/)
Bass previously said he placed the "winning bid" and celebrated the news on Friday night, only to be told on Saturday that a Hollywood studio has made a much bigger offer and planned to pay above any other bid. “I’m feeling heartbroken today,” he wrote in a statement posted to Twitter last night. “We placed the winning bid on the iconic Brady Bunch house — at least that’s what we were told. The agent represinting the estate informed us we made the winning bid (which was WAY over the asking price) after the final deadline for all offers had passed–even writing up the 'winning bid' for my team after informing me of the good news.”

Lance Bass may have hurt himself in The Brady Bunch house sale by celebrating prematurely on Twitter (http://www.tmz.com/2018/08/06/lance-bass-screwed-himself-brady-bunch-house-sale-bidding-war/)
According to TMZ, "sources close to the deal tell us Lance essentially opened the flood gates for other bidders by prematurely posting the news on social media (https://twitter.com/LanceBass/status/1025489741913968640) that the house was his. We're told that invited a new wave of bidders and offers." TMZ also notes that one of the other top bidders was Jonathan Scott from Property Brothers.

HGTV is the Winning Bidder for "The Brady Bunch" House in LA, Will Restore it “To Its 1970s Glory”
by Dade Hayes
August 7, 2018

The mystery of which Hollywood entity bought the iconic house used for exterior shots in "The Brady Bunch" has been solved: Cable network HGTV is the buyer.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav made the announcement during this morning’s second quarter earnings call with Wall Street analysts.

“One of our projects for HGTV will speak to those Brady Bunch fans on the call,” he said. “You may have heard that the house from the iconic series was recently on the market in California. I’m excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and will restore the Brady Bunch home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can.

More detail to come over the next few months but we’ll bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories about this beloved piece of American TV history.”

Lance Bass: I can't be mad at HGTV for beating me in The Brady Bunch house auction (https://twitter.com/LanceBass/status/1026880554744987649)
Bass has responded to this morning's revelation that the Discovery-owned channel outbid him in owning the iconic sitcom home. "HGTV??! Aw man,I’d be pretty upset if it were anyone else, but how can you be mad at HGTV??" he tweeted. "My television is stuck on that channel. Kudos HGTV, I know you will do the right thing with the house. That was always my biggest worry. I can smile again."

HGTV wins The Brady Bunch house with plans to restore it "to its 1970s glory" (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/brady-bunch-house-hgtv-won-bidding-will-restore-it-1970s-glory-1132682)

"I am excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and will restore The Brady Bunch home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can," said Discovery CEO David Zaslav, revealing the news during a Tuesday morning earnings call that HGTV will own the iconic Studio City home. He added: "More details to come over the next few months, but we will bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories with this beloved piece of American TV history." The news comes days after Lance Bass announced he submitted the winning bid (https://www.tvtattle.com/item/Lance-Bass-says-hell-become-the-new-owner-of-The-Brady-Bunch-house-5ZS0Zw). Bass' real estate broker told TMZ in a story published this morning (http://www.tmz.com/2018/08/07/lance-bass-brady-bunch-home-sale-real-estate-broker/) that Bass submitted a bid "just under $3 million." The broker said the seller's realtor even sent paperwork to finalize the deal. According to TMZ, "Lance claims the seller's realtor had a plan all along ... that a studio would come in after the bidding war and outbid everyone -- which is exactly what happened. Lance and his broker claim the seller's realtor lied to them and the other bidders and it was a shameless ploy to make a buck."

Real estate expert calls Lance Bass' failed Brady Bunch house bid a "rookie move" (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rambling-reporter/lance-bass-flubbed-his-chance-at-brady-bunch-house-it-was-a-rookie-move-1132631)
“He really made a mistake as a serious buyer to go on social media and claim himself the winning buyer,” a source tells The Hollywood Reporter. “A contract was never sent to him. There was never even a contract and now he is crying foul trying to save face for speaking too soon. But this is his own doing. It was a rookie move.”

“I’m a huge Brady fan, so I wanted to turn the house into what we all knew from the television show because all they did was use it for exterior,” he said. “The inside looks nothing like it, so I was gonna add a lot of square footage, add a second floor and try to turn it into that iconic set.”

I wonder if that's HGTV's plan as well?

"The Brady Bunch" Kids Reunite for HGTV Renovation of Real-Life Brady House
by Dave Nemetz
November 1, 2018

Here’s the story of a TV renovation we can’t wait to see: The original "Brady kids" came together to help HGTV launch a new series that aims to fix up the real-life Brady Bunch house.

The series, "A Very Brady Renovation", will see HGTV stars like Jonathan and Drew Scott (Property Brothers) and Lara Spencer (Flea Market Flip) fix up the Los Angeles house that served as the exterior of the Bradys’ TV home during the beloved show’s 1969-74 run on CBS.

The renovators will give the property “a ’70s-inspired rehab” that adds 2,000 square feet to the original footprint while maintaining the iconic street view and recreating the show’s kitschy interior design.

All six Brady kids — Barry Williams (Greg), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan), Mike Lookinland (Bobby) and Susan Olsen (Cindy) — joined the renovators on Thursday for a walk-through of the property, marking the first time all six actors had been together in nearly 15 years.

(Their TV parents Robert Reed and Florence Henderson have both passed away, as has Ann B. Davis, who played housemaid Alice.)

HGTV promises “additional surprise celebrity guests” when "A Very Brady Renovation" makes its debut in September 2019.

(Davy Jones is no longer with us, unfortunately… but maybe Joe Namath is available?)

The Brady Bunch siblings will be in front of the camera for HGTV's A Very Brady Renovation (https://people.com/home/original-brady-bunch-cast-involved-hgtv-renovation-show)

The six Brady siblings' reunion last week in front of their iconic house wasn't just a one-off event. Turns out Maureen McCormick, Eve Plumb, Susan Olsen, Barry Williams, Christopher Knight and Mike Lookinland will also star on the reality TV renovation series, with each actor paired with one of the designers. “You know when there are times in your life where everything comes together and it just feels like it was so meant to be and everything feels right? That’s how this feels,” says McCormick, who played Marcia Brady. “It’s so perfect.”

The Brady Bunch house renovation is expected to cost more than $350,000 (https://theblast.com/brady-bunch-house-renovations/)

This show did a real good job and probably the BEST JOB at children who genetically looked liked their parents. The boys and especially Barry Williams actually look like Robert Reed's kids. Not only that, the boys look like they could be actually brothers of each other, especially Greg and Bobby. The daughters look like the daughters of Florence Henderson although they look less related to each other than the boys.

HGTV will likely give away The Brady Bunch house after it's renovated (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/hgtvs-brady-bunch-house-will-go-fan-remodeling-show-1178506)

The cable network spent $3.5 million to buy the house and it is spending a lot of money to restore the interior to match the iconic sitcom. So what will happen after HGTV completes filming of A Very Brady Renovation? Discovery lifestyles chief Kathleen Finch said the house will likely be given away, according to The Hollywood Reporter. At the very least, she says, fans will have the chance to "earn" a stay in the house. Finch emphasized that no definitive plans have been made. Finch, speaking at the NATPE conference in Miami, also revealed how HGTV became a secret bidder for the house, beating Lance Bass' bid. "We went undercover and toured the house," she says. "Turns out we get into a bidding war with Lance Bass. It turned into a TMZ event. It spiraled out of control." HGTV eventually sent a representative to reveal the network's intentions. "We went to the family, said who were and said we'd be really respectful of it."

The Brady Bunch Kids Gush Over Their Newly Renovated Iconic TV Home: 'It's Very Nostalgic' (http://people.com/)

Here’s the story … of a A Very Brady Renovation (https://www.hgtv.com/shows/a-very-brady-renovation)!

On Wednesday, the original Brady Bunch cast members – Barry Williams (Greg), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan), Mike Lookinland (Bobby) and Susan Olsen (Cindy) – gathered together on the set of HGTV’s A Very Brady Renovation to see their newly renovated, iconic TV home for the first time.

“I was totally blown away,” McCormick, 62, told PEOPLE at the taping. “I felt like I was back at Paramount Studios at stage five, walking in the front door, getting ready to film a scene. I felt Robert [Reed], Florence [Henderson] and Ann B. Davis in that living room so much. I was blown away.”

“I didn’t anticipate how the whole picture would affect me,” Lookinland, 58, added.”It’s not just that the curtains match or that there’s the staircase that everybody recognizes or the perfect fireplace, it’s that it’s all together now again in one place.

A Very Brady Renovation brings all six Brady kids together for the first time in fifteen years and pairs them with HGTV designers to help renovate the house that served as the famous facade of their TV home on the series from 1969 to 1974. (All the interior scenes were filmed on a separate soundstage.)

Each sibling was assigned a room of the house to restore — with help from some HTGV experts along the way, including Property Brothers stars Jonathan and Drew Scott, Good Bones‘ Mina Starsiak and Karen E Laine, Flea Market Flip‘s Lara Spencer, Restored by the Fords siblings Leanne and Steve Ford and Hidden Potential‘s Jasmine Roth.

“It is very nostalgic,” Williams, 64, said. “I felt like a teenager walking in. The memories keep flooding in – episodes, scenes, what happened and what transpired. As Maureen pointed out, we can feel the presence of Robert, Florence and Annie there with us. Maybe they’re seeing it. It’ll be nice for them to enjoy.

“What is so cool is that we all got to actually make things and be a part of it, and have our hands on building, restoring refinishing, making things that are in this house that will be here hopefully forever,” said McCormick. “Hopefully, this place will survive forever. It’s a part of history.”

Last month, Today cohosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb got the Brady kids together to talk about their new series.

“It’s been a really long time since all of us have been back together,” McCormick explained on the show. “I think everyone looks at the projects as they come, and this one I think just got us all. It was HGTV who, you know, their programming is amazing, this whole show is filled with so much love, the crew everybody behind it—it’s a work of love.”

They also opened up to Guthrie and Kotb about the challenges of growing up as child actors who were part of such a popular show — speaking to the expectations of fans. However, all of the challenges didn’t take away from their overwhelming sense of gratitude.

“I mean, seriously, I’m just so grateful to have been a part of that show,” McCormick said. “It’s in so many people’s hearts everywhere and it makes people feel good. How lucky are we to have been a part of that.”

A Very Brady Renovation will premiere this September on HGTV.

Sadly that link does not work in my country but thanks for posting the blurb.

The house looks amazing. Somethings are off such as the forth wall in the living room that we almost never saw; I am sure in the episode where Pete saved the little girl at the toy story, at the end we saw the forth wall and it had a slight bencd in it with a display unit which is not on show here. Also, the garden looks very wrong but I guess they were limited with space. And the door to Mikes den does not sit under the doorframe the way it did in the original show. Personally I would have made the door a few inches shorter so that it fit in. Niggles aside, WOW, WOW, WoW!

I guess they are saving the rest of the house for the TV show in September.

They mention that they have done the bedroom for Alice. I hope they used the correct set up for the bedroom and utility room as seen in the season one episodes where you could clearly see how it was all linked.

I cannot wait to see what theydid with the room at the top of the stairs. Perhaps a second entrance to the parents bathroom.

Clips of the show they used suggest no remastering of HD which sadly was to be expected.

On the one hand, I don't know if I would want to live there even if they were to give it to me for free. The hordes of fans showing up at all hours of the day would be maddening and you'd have no privacy to speak of. And there's no point in being there if you're not going to maintain it exactly the way it is now. On the other hand, I suppose one could turn it into a unique AirBnb experience. $300 a night and you, too, can rent a bedroom in the real Brady house! With three bedrooms (four if they were able to build out Greg's attic), you could haul in a couple of hundred thousand a year, enough to pay the property tax. Maybe hire an Alice lookalike to cook and clean for the guests. Like on the show, reduce the housekeeper's salary requirements by giving her free room and board in the house. But you'd have to install lots of hidden cameras to prevent sticky-fingered fans from making off with pieces of the retro decor, especially the actual relics from the show.

The could do tours of the house. That would pay for it. They could also film a reboot of the show there set in the 70s!

I cannot to see the rest of the house.

It's too difficult to shoot a TV show in an actual house. The presence of the fourth wall in every room would mean you can't get the same camera angles, there isn't enough space for all of the equipment and it would feel claustrophobic. Just compare how narrow the living room looks in that ET video compared with the spacious-feeling BB living room set, where the cameras could pull back to take in a wide view.

Barry Williams jokes HGTV paid "way too much" for The Brady Bunch house (https://www.thewrap.com/the-brady-bunch-house-a-very-brady-renovation/)

The Greg Brady actor joined his fellow Brady Bunch siblings in promoting A Very Brady Renovation at the TV press tour. All admitted that they didn't really know much about the real-life Studio City home that was used for exterior shots on The Brady Bunch. “We didn’t know where this house was. I didn’t know where it was until 1990,” said Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady. ALSO: There would be "no show" unless all six Brady siblings signed on for A Very Brady Renovation (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/brady-bunch-cast-hgtv-reunion-no-show-all-6-were-involved-1227133).
