View Full Version : Is Nickelodeon the most irrelevant network of the 2010s as far as animation goes

Outside of maybe Loud House and TMNT (2012) it seems like Nick has for the most part, neglected and/or dare I say, gave up or stop caring about animation. This is in no small part because the success of SpongeBob has made them extremely complacent at the expense of other shows. And when ever Nick has aired a new animated series, it has either been heavily panned by audiences (see Breadwinners or Sanjay and Craig) or the show is actually good and well liked by audiences but winds up getting screwed by the network anyway (see Legend of Korra and Harvey Beaks). This is especially prevalent if said shows aren't meeting the SpongeBob levels of ratings.

And now instead of making the more experimental and daring cartoons like their competitors over at Cartoon Network and Disney Channel (like say Regular Show, Steven Universe, OK KO, Star vs, Gravity Falls, and Wander Over Yonder) Nickelodeon is trying to pander to '90s viewers by promoting that era's Nicktoons revival special at the expense of their newer stuff.

They are certainly forcing cartoons out of their lineup and eventually it will become nothing but live action pre-teen and teen dramas and comedies. I see them potentially becoming two separate entities- one that is focused on the live action shows of today and the past and one that will strictly be their animated series.
