View Full Version : The Wedding

I Dream of Jeannie

Do you guys and gals think that the wedding should have took place? It has come to my attention that many people think that the wedding should have been the last episode, never should of happened, or aired when it did. So I thought I'd see what you folks would say.

Well, based on the circumstance that Major Nelson chose to hide Jeannie from everybody (except Roger) for the longest time- I think it's about time he revealed her existence to Dr. Bellows and everyone else (but not the fact that she's a genie). It's also about time he married her, because Jeannie was obviously in love with him from the time she met him, and we've finally seen his love grow for her as well.

There are a couple of things that bug me about the wedding though:

1. The idea that genies can't be photographed is inconsistent with an earlier ep, where we've seen Jeannie's picture in the newspaper (can't remember which ep though)

2. As many people here have indicated, that dream scene in the wedding was way too long

Good topic Jeannie and Dallas, thank you for keeping this board alive. I wish that some of the other boards here were just as lively.

I thought I'd wait till someone else replied to express my opinion. Here it is! From the first episode I saw the relationship between Jeannie and Tony grow, every episode you saw Tony realizing more and more each day that he loved Jeannie. Jeannie each day realized that he was the one for her she new for sure. My favorite thing about the show is the relationship between the two of them. That's what I love watching is the two fall truely, madly, deeply in love. It's wonderful and to me I love the fact that Tony risked his life to save Jeannie in my favorite episode "Guess Who's Going To Be a Bride" Part 1 and 2. I love how we saw them engaged and then we saw them married it's like wow they finally are together, what I've been wanting to happen from the start. So I like where they aired the episode so that we could see a little bit of what we wanted all along; Jeannie and Tony together 4 ever. To bad the show didn't last forever.

What I don't like about the episode the wedding is that the dream sequences are way to long and look funny. But my favorite part is where Tony tells Jeannie that he loves her. It's so sweet!

THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS:

Based on the fact that the show tanked after they got married, I'm inclined to say the last episode...but I liked many of the last episodes, so I'll conclude with leave it where it is.

I love the wedding, but the dream scenes are just a little bit on the stupid side. I think it's really funny at the end when Dr. Bellows puts in the wedding tape and it's something else. The part where Tony is kissing Jeannie, but she's invisible is really funny too, especially if you think about how stupid he must have felt having to film that! I don't think the episode should have been the last one because I really like some of the ones in the last part of season 5.

I voted for "When It Did". There was only so much humor that could be mined from Tony hiding Jeannie's existence. I liked the intereaction between Jeannie and the other characters, such as Dr. Bellows and Amanda, once they found out about her!!! :)

I so loved the way that when Tony would walk in a room with a bunch of folks in it, including Jeannie, and would always say something to her first before he even acknowledged anyone else. That is so sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I myself would have still watched the show after they got married still.

Yeah the sexual tension was gone but other elements of the show could have kept it going.

I'm a fan of a lot of married couples like Maxwell Smart and 99 from Get Smart, Rebecca and Jesse from Full house and my fav Leo and Piper (on and off screen) from Charmed. So I would have watched the show for sure!

I think the creative team for I Dream of Jeannie should have written "The Wedding" episode beyond the fifth season. It was obvious right from the beginning . . . that the show was building up to that certain event. It was like the climax of the whole show. And of course, after the climax . . . comes the downfall which led to the cancellation of I Dream of Jeannie."The Wedding" should have been ONE of the last episodes of the series, if not the last.

I agree with the others that the dream sequence was too long and the music made it kinda creepy. I think that was the perfect place to have the episode & I really enjoyed the marital affection that the two had.

It's just too bad that there wasn't a sixth season where they'd start a family like Get Smart did in its last season. The idea of the combination of pregnancy and magical powers coul've been something.

I think them getting married was great. I thought the last half of season four had lots of stupid episodes and that season five turned it around. I thought almost all of the engaged/married episodes were some of the best. Someone said there was no more sexual tension but I disagree. Even though they were married there was still plenty. For example, every time he kissed her you felt he really meant it – rather than before when sometimes he was trying to resist (not very hard though I admit). It was like it was finally alright. And he was always so romantic towards her in front of people-that is VERY romantic. And now that people actually knew about Jeannie it lead to more situations rather than the standard of her hiding every time somebody was coming. Most of the pre engagement/marriage involved Jeannie causing a problem that Tony would have to cover up – usually bewildering Dr. Bellows. But this allowed Tony to be the one who was bewildered (119 “Jeannie and the Bachelor Party”, 122 “The Mad Home Wrecker”, 125 “My Sister the Homewrecker”, 131 “Mrs. Djinn-Djinn”, 136.”An Astronaut in Sheep's Clothing”). I wish they had more shows when they were engaged/married.

Heck, the wedding was the best part. It's my favorite episode I'm a sucker for the romance between them. A friend of mine and I wrote continuation stories about them having kids and everything and we posted them on our story pages.

Yup.. same here, which is why I always ask around for stories, since I'm not good at writing them myself.. I still haven't seen any couples on TV as good as they were..

They should have saved it until the end.

I dunno.. if they saved it for the end I would've been like "ok, so what next".. I would have been expecting to see atleast something after that, which we got.. I think it happened when it should have... But it would have been nicer to see even more :-D lol, the more I get, the more I want

They should have never married,,,it ruined the show in my opinion! Part of the show's appeal was Jeannie wanting to marry, and Tony's resistance to it. The chase was more fun to watch than the capture. It was also entertaining to watch Tony & Roger hide Jeannie's existence from the rest of the world, especially Dr. Bellows. Great stuff!

Would've been nice had they waited and then made it the last episode.

It would've been a perfect capper for the series.

Back then, they weren't as cognizant of ending a series on a high note, like they're doing more and more often today, making for usually awesome episodes, where you KNOW it's the end. It also gives them a little more poetic license (eg, the end of Star Trek: Voyager when you find out Chakotay and 7 of 9 are going to get married... they couldn't do that DURING the series, right?)

Unfortunately, I don't entirely recall the wedding ep. Everyone's mentioning a dream sequence. That's not when they're wearing their "mess dress" uniforms, is it? Or is that a "real" segment of the ep?

I love this picture of Roger. All those years ago, and I DO remember this sequence, or at least I do. I found it remarkable because Roger's always such a clown, and he's actually quite serious right here. If I remember right, they were trying to convey "Yes, I'm very happy for Tony and Jeannie," but then he wonders... "am I ever going to have that?"

Maybe my wee brain isn't telling me right, today, but I think that's what Bill was acting in that part.

I have one more day to cover in my Crossover fanfic, when T&J get married, but I've got NO idea how this episode went. Well, I know about the dream stuff and "can't photograph Jeannie" but those are non-issues here.

Can someone describe the ceremony itself? Is there a transcript of it somewhere? I did a google on "The Wedding" and "I Dream of Jeannie" and got a bajillion hits, none of which I was looking for.

I figured, why write my own when it's been done? (Not saying I'm going to plagiarize it, by the way, and if I do use some elements of it I'll certainly cite my source.)

But Samantha and Roger can't go back to CO till I get this part done!

Help!
