Jimmy Smits turns 63. He made his feature film debut in the 1986 action comedy Running Scared. He had major roles in films of the late eighties and nineties like Old Gringo, Vital Signs, and My Family. More recently, Smits appeared as Bail Organa in three installments of the Star Wars franchise. He has also had a decent stage career, making his Broadway debut in 2003 when he starred in Nilo Cruz’s Anna in the Tropics.
Smits is best known, though, for his television career. He is a twelve-time Emmy nominee. His first six nominations were for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama, as Victor Sifuentes on L.A. Law; he won in 1990.
