I have noticed that 4th Of July marathons of TV shows are no longer shown every year and I would like to know why this is? Is it because marathons are too expensive to put on TV and TV networks want to focus on other things rather than marathons? Take for example I saw few Fourth Of July marathons today with the exception of the marathon of Xena Warrior Princess on El Rey Network and an patriotic movie marathon on the Turner Classic Movies channel and even GSN had a marathon of the game show America Says. And so it tells me that marathons on Independence Day have gone out of style on TV. Also what was surprising to me is that FETV did not even have a July 4th marathon at all and they should had marathons of Gomer Pyle or Hogan's Heroes or even McHale's Navy on July 4th. What I think of all this is that TV marathons for July 4th will disappear in the future or be improved so that people can enjoy them

When most channels show 3-4 hour blocks of shows every day, what's so special about showing a couple more hours on a specific day?

Hate to say it but that's a true statement. Marathons are on everyday now. I remember the days when it was July 4, and I think The Holidays.

Marathons lost their charm when the channels started doing "block programming" every day. Today I can do marathons anytime I want, WITHOUT commercials! :D

KTLA has done a Fourth Of July Twilight Zone Marathon since 1983 and still do it.

Most so called channels these days do not want to put any effort into anything except their advertising departments.Scheduling a marathon takes a little bit of effort. Most just seem to basically phone in their schedules now.
