I'm sure we won't have as many of these because they take a lot more time than haikus and limericks, lol, but I thought it'd be fun to try nonetheless. I thought I'd dedicate the first one to the charter 7 girls from our dorm:

The Eastland Seven

O Nancy with her long and raven hair,
With Roger on the phone all day and night
Sue Ann from Kansas made it way out there
To further studies and prepare for life

Blair thinks her beauty 'way above the norm
She's lost in her blond hair and chestnut eyes
And Cindy major athlete of the dorm
She loves to play at sports and exercise

There's Natalie who loves to joke and laugh
She keeps the mood lighthearted all day long
While Molly is a budding feminist
Who won't let men oppress her, that'd be wrong

And Tootie is the youngest one of all
You'll often find her skating down the hall

-----------------------------------------------------

Sonnets are 14-line poems with 3 stanzas of 4 lines each, and a final couplet of 2 lines, done in Iambic pentameter (da-DA da-DA da-DA da-DA da-DA --- 5 in each line - though you can vary it a bit to not have all 14 lines sound the same, if you want) in the following rhyme scheme:

A
B

lol...whether limericks, haiku, or sonnets, we can all step behind Mr. Bradley's podium in the common room when reciting our poetry, lol.

Thanks Retro...now that I have honored all 7 girls for an opener, I now dedicate one solely to my favorite Lost Girl! (with influence by Homer; I love Greek mythology, lol)

To Cindy

O Muse, I sing of Cindy Webster now
The goddess with the hair of golden braids
Despite her fam'ly life she does avow
To pass her classes with excelling grades

To her athletics are the joy of life
In baseball, hockey, running she transcends
One finds her jumping rope should there be strife
Yet once a conflict fades she makes amends

She loves her fellow girls as sisters, all
Supportive, caring, teammate, friendly girl
She'd rather have a racket than a doll
Of tomboys, she's the best in Eastland's world

O Maiden of the Corn, we sing our love
We praise thee Cindy shining from above!

An ode to my 2nd favorite Lost Girl:

To Molly

Sing I, o Muse, of Molly Parker here
One of the seven girls whom we first knew
From season one some fans do hold her dear
She silently got "lost" in season two

This freckled feminist demanded rights
As equal that of any adult males
She even set her future grown-up sights
Presiding at GM and saving whales

She plucked the strings of her wee brown guitar
And belted an environmental song
And sang in pain when her own daddy scar'd
Her with another 'gal he brought along

Her bowl cut made her stand out from the crowd
And "New Girl 2" was whence she fin'ly bowed

You're quite the bard!

O, to stroll along Eastland's halls "barding" sonnets to all! That would be the life! lol

To Nancy

O Nancy Olsen, first of all the girls!
We sing your hallowed place in Eastland's halls
Your hair, it catches eyes as it unfurls
Cascading down like raven waterfalls

You met your Roger during season one
And knew right then your love was meant to be
You gushed for hours on the phone for fun
And Switched-On Sizzlers, o, if he did see!

Psychiatry is your professed career
And when upset you straighten things at hand
When gossip comes you grab a globe that's near
Umbrellas, though, have cursed you o'er the land

"The Group" excluded you, lo, so unfair!
Come Nancy, now, a flower for your hair

This is another impressive effort, '80s! You have a real knack with sonnets! Shakespeare and Norman Lear would both be proud.

The only line on this one that I don't understand is "And Switched-On Sizzlers". When did Nancy and Roger go to Sizzlers? I would revise that line, if possible.

Still, these are gorgeous, and I'd hate to see them only viewed here. At some point, would you... consider... giving them wider viewership on YouTube? There's a YouTube channel where there will eventually be tribute videos for all the Lost Girls, and these beautiful sonnets might make nice intros or outros. It's okay if you don't want that, but I thought it can't hurt to ask.

 Retro, don't you remember Blair's father's fashions from "Warner Fashions - Henri of Hollywood Division" in "Adoption"? And that pink and purple nightie with the blinking light bulbs outlining the "bosom"?

Nancy: "These are called the 'Switched-On Sizzlers' - when Roger sees me in this, he will die!"

To Sue Ann

I sing now of the Weaver girl, Sue Ann
Of she from Kansas City yonder far
The girl with speed to outrun any man
And mind so bright, her grades she wouldn't mar

She loves to look her best for Bates's boys
She thought that Scott Dunbar held Peekskill's moon
Midwestern values root her in her joys
Though once she black'd a friend's eye like a 'coon

To pressure from her peers she once gave in
Experimenting with forbidden grass
She learned her lesson, vowing ne'er again
And from then on remain'd a lucid lass

Your yellow hair surrounds you with a glow
While being "lost" was your true fate, o, woe!

To Miss Downes

O Muse, I sing the praises of Miss Downes
Who clerked in Harrison's department store
The scum who thieved from her brought forth her frowns
And made her grill them, asking, "Dear, what for??"

She is a striking figure seen afar
With silken scarves and glasses fix'd to chain
And Eastland hired her to mold a star
Of girls who music'ly could lilt a strain

When drama teaching had, for her, plateaued
Administration then did she approach
The girls' records upon her they bestowed
A touchy subject with her, should you broach

Miss Downes, you peaked in your dramatic arts
E'er may you dwell in many "Facts" fans' hearts!

To Señor Tiger

O Muse, I sing the praises of decor
In focus, here, the tiger of the girls
He stayed at least for seasons one through four
And pleasant is his smile; not one of churls

Behaving silently in num'rous scenes
In windows or by bureau or by bed
Sometimes bare-headed (body nude, no jeans)
And other times sombrero tops his head

Though show was changed when season one did end
Retained were you, small continuity
You dwelt above the kitchen, sill-based, and
You stayed for years; fate, or fortuity?

Your stripe-ed self and broad-brimmed hat were fun
O Eastland Tiger, praise thee to the sun!

To Steven Bradley

O muse, of Steven Bradley now I sing
Headmaster of our girls on Eastland's grounds
Protectively he watch'd o'er ev'rything
And stayed informed by making frequent rounds

He yearned for all his girls to be their best
Promoting education, sports as well
Commanded he their heed at his behest
But if they took a drug, lo! he'd expel

Against the elements he firmly stood
Defending his with strong virility
And lauded as a bold hero he would
Flirt first with pride, yet choose humility

O father o'er ev'ry hallow'd hall
Headmaster Bradley, most revered of all!

To Eastland Parents

I sing to honor parents of our girls
Respected great, these Eastland moms and dads
They trusted Edna Garrett's wisdom pearls
And loved their daughters, times both good and bad

O Charlie he courageously reformed
And Rose worked hard providing all she could
While David swam in business deals and forms
It's Monica who dropped in when she would

Like flesh and bone sweet Evie loved her child
And Dr. Green he wanted best for her
Diane tried to relate when times were wild
While "Buffalo" was strict and quite stubborn

A Lost Parent was Dr. Parker, "Jeff"
The other girls', poor dears, parent-bereft!

To Season 1 Cook

I sing now of the cook of season one
Who never did show presence on our screens
The expert baker of the cinnamon bun
Which sev'ral of served as sweets for our teens

O what a lofty career to uphold
Making meals for seven girls at once
Those cinnamons, they could have won the gold
Enjoyed by all, be genius, or be dunce

Your gender has been long unspecified
You, secluded chef of Mystery Meat
Ominous that dish, not 'dentified
Yet rumors say it's flavored like bare feet

Your "role" was featured in one of thirteen,
O Cook of Season One, to thee we sing!

To Dorm Telephone

O Muse, the common room's beige telephone
I sing the praises of now in this hymn
So many hours Nancy spent alone
With Roger on there, 'pon its ring: "It's him!"

Our Blair spoke on it once unto a judge
And Scott Dunbar got Sue Ann on its line
For birthing info Natalie wouldn't budge
And Tootie once took Dr. Parker's time

When Edna called up Molly to the phone
The Lost Girl slammed receiver on its base
And Cindy Webster, she and she alone
Never touched this prop there in its place

Used by all but one first season girl,
Dorm Telephone, to teenage girls, a pearl!

To The Lounge Door

To you, Lounge Door, I now sing of your place
At Eastland in the corner by the wall
You saw the going, leaving of the face
Of Mrs. Garrett and her girls, four all.

In season two you opened first one day
When Jo came through in helmet and her gear
You led to an interior hallway
The only time such in-ness did appear

By season three the bricks outside looked odd
Not lining up with all the tos and fros
With season four you gained approving nod
From fans whom you made smile again, no foes

Connected to indoors or ivied walls,
We sing, Lounge Door, your place in hallowed halls!

To The Lamp of Longevity

Sing now, O Muse, of that most honor'd light
Bedeck'd in orange, avocado green
It first resided where our girls, at night,
Would sleep, and for that decade it was keen

Fall '80 found the lamp in Edna's room
A change of view, an era much ador'd
With drama high of head-strong teenage girls
The mood it felt was anything but "bored"

Its next home was a house there right in town
Residing by the couch, not any beds
It saw the food shop thrive and then burn down
And rise again anew as O'er Our Heads

O Shining Lamp of Peekskill, glowing warm,

This also reminds me of the fight the Golden Girls had over how to store cereal in the kitchen.

Dorothy: "It stays fresher in the refrigerator!"

Rose: "You're both wrong! It doesn't go in the refrigerator or the cabinet, it goes in a glass canister! That way, not only is it visually appealing, but you can see if they cheated you out of raisins."

Haha, me too!! I grew up with the Blanche cabinet method (and still adhere to that), and never ever heard of Dorothy's refrigerator method (maybe cold cereal's not so bad since milk makes it cold anyway, but still, yeah, wouldn't be my choice).

And my maternal grandparents who live an hour away from where I grew up, they always kept their cereal the Rose way, in big glass canisters! I always thought that was so neat, getting to see the cereal in all its wondrous naked glory, lol. :)

 It does sound neat.

Cereal belongs in a box in the cabinet. If you want to get fancy, a glass canister is cool, but hardly necessary. How often is it going to be Raisin Bran, anyway?

Keeping cereal in the fridge is just wrong.

Not "exactly". Keeping cereal in glass canisters provides a neat memory for your grandchildren. See me. :)

To The Dorm Piano

To you, piano in the dorm, we sing
Your praises, though you never were explored
For thirteen episodes you just were seen
Yet never used - oh my, how surely bored!

Of seven girls residing in your dorm
Not one took lessons 'pon your iv'ry keys
Not even the musician 'mongst the girls
The folk song feminist, bob-haired Mol-ly

"The Girls' School" showed a forerunner of yours
An instrument in shade of deepest brown
Along you came, then, with your new col-ours
And wore a hue of cream just as a crown

Neglected, simply used for scenery,
Piano in the dorm, sing praises we!

Definitely! And considering Charlotte's background as a musician, and the fact that they had a piano on the set, I'm flabbergasted that they never thought to incorporate some musical numbers or showcase Charlotte's musical talents.

Thanks Ret, and yes, great point about musicality and Charlotte. It would have been great if they had made one of the girls a pianist, and she could have played (either herself, or pretend playing while a real pianist plays off stage) while Mrs. Garrett sang.

Now, granted, they did have her do a few brief musical things (for example, "I love Paris in the spwingtiiiime", and "quiche me once and quiche me twice, and quiche me once again, wooooooo!"), and she did actually perform a solo song in "Christmas in the Big House", but yes, a "production number" with Mrs. Garrett in that dorm with that piano would have been fabulous!

Plus, back then, MANY MANY girls took piano lessons (there was no Internet, so what else was there to do? haha). So what baffles me is the fact that SE-VEN TEENAGE GIRLS were in this dorm, living away from home, and not ONE of them took piano lessons.

AGREED. And I know Julie Pie took piano lessons in St. Louis, so why didn't they use that talent!?

Let's hop in the time machine!

Hopping in!

Blair: "I know what kind of music you're into, Sue Ann. It takes a real square to be a real square dancer." :snob:

They could have even done a talent show episode where Mrs. Garrett plays piano while Molly sings and dances or plays guitar and sings! (Retro I know you wouldn't want that, but at least Mrs. Garrett would be playing the piano! )

As long as they tuned the guitar, it would have been okay.

And it'd be worth it to get a musical number from Charlotte.

I am approve. Time machine, here we come!

To Miss Mahoney

O muse, I do sing now of Emily
She, teacher at our Eastland School for Girls
Her campus seems to be her family
And lo, her head springs great horrific curls!

Her fashion sense is buried in the past
She tends to dress uptight like old schoolmarms
You'd never say her clothing is a "blast"
Although it causes no one any harm

Her husbandry of rabbits fills her time
She loves to bring new bunnies in the world
Her social life would be much more than fine
If only she would modernize those curls!

O Miss Mahoney, hail'd from season one
We praise you even though your perm says "RUN!"
