View Full Version : Who is your favorite Eastland teacher?
'80sSitcoms 06-29-2018, 03:41 PM Miss Mahoney - episodes 1 - 4
Mr. Gideon - the journalism teacher Jo gets exiled (season 3's "Front Page")
Mr. Palmer - the French teacher Cousin Geri goes out with (season 3's "Cousin Geri Returns")
Miss Downs - the music/drama teacher directing "South Pacific" (season 3's "Green-Eyed Monster")
Miss Gallagher - Jo's favorite teacher who leaves before she dies (season 4's "Teacher's Pet")
Honorable mention: "Moosejaw" Muldoon, who is referenced, but never seen, lol (season 3's "Mind Your Own Business")
RetroGuy2000 06-29-2018, 05:25 PM I was a little torn, here.
Mr. Gideon was pushing Jo so she'd be a better student, but I also think he was too harsh with her. Kinda a jerk, but didn't deserve for Jo to destroy his career.
Miss Gallagher was really nice, and didn't deserve the harsh treatment she received from Jo. (What is it with Jo treating teachers badly?)
Miss Mahoney was too strict with her charges. I believe she left the school when she discovered her rabbits weren't the only ones who were pregnant. She mysteriously vanished months before Mr Bradley also disappeared. Coincidence? I think not.
In the end, I voted for Miss Gallagher.
'80sSitcoms 06-29-2018, 05:32 PM I voted for Mr. Palmer and Miss Downs.
Mr. Palmer because he is such a swell guy, and with a great sense of humor, and Miss Downs because she is so darn funny with her demeanor and impatience!

Ya can take the girl outta the Bronx,... lol

Hahaha! Talk about a fan-fic!

Yes, Miss Downs is such a quirky character!
Mr. Palmer is pretty nice, but I don't think he's as nice as Miss Gallagher.
(What was it with none of the female teachers being married? Did Eastland have a rule?!)

He's just such an all-around great guy, though; certainly a better representation of our gender than Mr. Gideon, lol.

That's true! :D
Schmoopie 06-18-2019, 08:33 PM I liked Ms. Gallagher.
RetroGuy2000 06-19-2019, 12:20 AM I liked Ms. Gallagher.
It was such a shame, what happened. Faking her own death so she could run off with Coach Lubbock and have eight kids with him!
Lorimar Television 06-19-2019, 02:49 AM I have a soft spot for Miss Mahoney since she was on from the start and interacted with the lost girls.

Okay, I need more info about this!

Sorry, it was just a silly joke. Deborah Harmon, who played Miss Gallagher on FOL, would later go on to play Elizabeth Lubbock on Just the Ten of Us, where she portrayed the mother of eight kids.

Miss Mahoney was pretty cool. I like how she convinced Mr. Bradley that IQ scores were meaningless.

Ahhhhh, that's why I recognize her! That, and, I just confirmed, John's ex-wife Wendy in a handful of appearances on "Dear John".

Perhaps my favorite Mahoney appearance. In "I.Q." she's both funny and warm.
Lorimar Television 06-19-2019, 04:35 PM Haha yep, IQ was great!

Haha! In reference to Just the Ten of Us... love this!!

 Yep!
'80sSitcoms 07-01-2019, 11:32 AM Oo, there was another Eastland teacher mentioned in the series:
Ms. Gafney, Tootie's English teacher in "Starstruck" (Mrs. Garrett: "I spoke to Ms. Gafney, your English teacher".....Tootie: "Those English papers just came at a bad time!", haha)
