Why the cast change? Why didn't Jarrett Lennon as Mark Foster stay on Step By Step?

It's a long interview, but well worth the time. TBH, characters (and their actors) were always treated as disposable on Miller-Boyett sitcoms.

Judy, the original Harriette, the grandma, Aunt Rachel, Little Ritchie, etc. etc. FM was a train wreck by the end.

Valerie on V/VF/THF.

Aunt Penny, the grandma, Cody, Brendan, etc., on Step By Step.

Shirley, Edna, Lenny, etc., on Laverne and Shirley.

Chuck and Richie Cunningham, Ralph, Lori Beth, etc., on Happy Days.

Lydia, Harriette, Susan, Mr. Twinkacetti, Mr. Gorpley, etc., on Perfect Strangers.

M-B was absolutely terrible about character continuity, and many times (though not always), these characters' disappearances went unexplained, and we got weak substitute characters like Flash (on Step By Step) and Ted McGinley (on Happy Days).

Yeah, wow that is quite the track record. Cant forget Jean-Luc on SBS, he fits both categories: disappeared without explanation and was a weak substitute character.

Yep, good point. Then again, didn't Flash also disappear without explanation?

He did, but Flash only appeared in 4 or 5 episodes anyway

Don't forget that (Josh) Brenden eventually disappeared from this show too.
