"Lucifer" Saved: Netflix Picks Up Series for Season 4 after Fox Cancellation
by Nellie Andreeva
June 15, 2018

What a feat — two canceled Fox shows this year made the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter, and now both have found new homes. Netflix has made a deal for comic book drama "Lucifer", which will become a Netflix original starting with its upcoming fourth season.

The Tom Ellis–starring "Lucifer" joins cult canceled comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", which landed at NBC after the Fox cancellation.

Netflix’s pickup decision comes just as the options on the "Lucifer" cast were about to expire. It comes after a big #SaveLucifer campaign that has stayed in the social media conversation for the past month.

Buoyed by strong fan support, "Lucifer" producer Warner Bros. TV started shopping the series to steaming services and premium cable networks right away.

Lucifer bosses were only given a 10-minute heads-up on Netflix's Season 4 pickup (https://tvline.com/2018/06/18/lucifer-season-4-renewed-netflix-episode-count-start-date-comic-con/)
Co-showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich offered some details on their revived series, recalling to TV Line the whirlwind news of Netflix's pickup. They also say one of the recently aired bonus episodes might be folded into Season 4 -- without counting as one of Season 4's 10-episode order. Production on next season begins soon, in August. "We’re hitting the ground running. Everyone is primed and ready," says Henderson. But will Lucifer run an entire hour on Netflix? “We’ll probably stick roughly to our 43 minutes,” says Modrovich. “That’s part of what we’re going to talk to Netflix about. I think we might have a bit of room for flexibility, hopefully, so if there’s a scene we love and we don’t want to cut it, we’re hoping that now we won’t have to. But we’re not suddenly going to have hour-and-a-half episodes!” ALSO: Lucifer is coming to Comic-Con. (https://deadline.com/2018/06/lucifer-comic-con-appearance-netflix-1202412725/)
