View Full Version : Nyleen Kay Marshall Website
Yusuke 06-11-2018, 09:55 PM I no longer feel the need to just post updates about my website on the Finding "KAY"? thread for my website, so I'll do it here.
For those of you who don't know, I've been following Nyleen's case since 2012. I've done a lot of research and have at least interacted with two family members off this site.
Anyways, I've added a new page to my site: https://marshallcase.wordpress.com/common-misconceptions/.
I'll make a page discussing the other leads like the Racine County Jane Doe or the mysterious girl at the hospital. There's a really interesting one I want to cover as well.
FireMage 06-13-2018, 02:20 AM I really enjoy the fact that people like you are dedicated to cases this old. However, I'm of the opinion that she got lost in the woods and was mauled by a wild animal.

I never agreed with this. The last that was seen of Nyleen, there was an unidentified male popping out from behind trees right by her.

How come?
Yusuke 08-04-2021, 11:09 PM My site is open again. It's not really complete. The archive page has every Newspaper clipping I got from Newspaper.com. 6-28-1998 is about Nancy's death.

Thank you for that. I have no idea why the authorities initially suspected suicide, because it is very obvious that Nancy was murdered, but I do not think her murder had anything to do with Nyleen's disappearance.

Absolutely it was a murder. To think for even a second it was suicide requires complete removal from any sense of reality.
My heart really breaks for Nyleen's brother and sister. On top of losing Nyleen, they have to live every day knowing that not only was their mother murdered, she suffered a great deal beforehand. And then to know it was written off as a suicide and the killer has never been punished? Some families are magnets for tragedy and they have experienced too much of it.
Yusuke 12-13-2021, 01:30 PM I've neglected to mention this since reopening the site, but it now has a second admin, who is related to Nyleen and Nancy. Since I'm uncertain if they wish to be anonymous, I won't say who for now.

I think they initially ruled suicide because they assumed she hanged herself and were too lazy to do a thorough investigation (hence overlooking the busted-open door). It's shoddy police work through and through.

I have gone back and forth on whether she was kidnapped or wandered away and ultimately died of exposure in the forest. One thing that I can't shake on the kidnapping aspect is, the picnic was in a very remote section of the Elkhorn mountains. She was there with many members of a radio club that her father had been a member of. I have even heard it was invitation only. I find it hard to believe that a random abductor would have been out in that area, who could not only have zeroed in on Nyleen, but also made it out with her, completely undetected. Not unless the abduction was extremely well planned out and involved more than one perpetrator. Given that area's location and terrain, someone getting out of there with Nyleen in such a way to where nobody suspected a thing would have been extremely tricky at best.

I'd want a layout of the area and the picnic itself to use for the site.

I'd like to see the layout and picnic area as well but it would have to be circa 1983, when Nyleen vanished. The problem is, the Elkhorn Mountains had a massive forest fire in 1988 that destroyed over 50,000 acres. If the picnic area was part of that fire, it may look drastically different today and it won't give you the same sense of what it was like to be there and where she could have gone, either on her own or if someone grabbed her.
UM was usually pretty accurate with their on shot locations for reenactments but we don't know for sure if that was the exact area where they filmed the reenactment.

Nyleen's segment was filmed within California and Nevada, so it was a different location for her case.

I just don't get this theory though. A wild animal takes her, mauls her and presumably eats some of her. Well, there is still some of her left. They did massive searches in that area and came up with nothing. I would assume dogs would be searching for her too. Also, no one hears a cougar or a mountain lion attacking a kid? She wouldn't just disappear into thin air that way. There would be traces of her all over the place if this happened.
There could have easily been someone lurking around the area of the picnic who wasn't park of the group. I don't know the layout, but one of two things, if it was in a pretty remote area and there were girls that recognized someone who didn't belong there then that ties into the kidnapping theory, and secondly, maybe there were people that came and went in that area once in a while. So who knows, they could have just been opportunists.
For me this case is troublesome because it is a classic case of what seems to be a remote kidnapping. And that always makes you uneasy. Because it is so rare. Michaela Garecht had this happen to her, we all know Jaycee Dugaard's story, that was random too. But most of them aren't. This one just seems like it was the wrong guy noticing some children playing without much supervision and he took the opportunity to snatch them.

Nice site, thanks for your work. I wasn't aware of the 13 year old who turned her back for a couple of minutes on Nyleen and then realized she was gone afterwards. Do you know if Kim Marshall is still involved (or alive) with this case? That would be his (technically) step-daughter of course, although he had raised her from the get go pretty much. Also, does Nyleen's biological father ever come into play here? Not that I don't think this angle was looked at already, but could he have been someone behind her disappearance? Or did they always know about his whereabouts?
Lastly, what about Nyleen's siblings? Are they still in the picture?
Also, I have always felt that sketch of the man and woman is pretty vague. I know Nyleen's uncle says he recognized them in the search, but honestly, that looks like a LOT of people, that sketch. It isn't unique.
Yusuke 01-01-2023, 07:41 PM Nice site, thanks for your work.
Thanks.

Last I checked, it appears Kim is still kicking. Can't comment on what he's up to right now.

IIRC, Bill Briscoe was a high school teacher in Orange County and an entrepreneur. I was told he was briefly looked at but was crossed out as he never leaves California and had an alibi.

Like with Kim, I can't really comment as they're very private people. From what I've gathered, they definitely care about Nyleen.

Not that I would hold out hope after 40 years that Nyleen is still around, but if she was, I am trying to picture what sort of reunion she would have. She wouldn't remember anyone. Her mom is long dead, she likely doesn't remember any siblings. And who knows what sort of story she has been fed. If the Baskin children didn't want to meet with their parents I wonder how it would work in this situation, or any other one.
