Twenty years old. Damn. Wasn't even old enough to buy alcohol much less dying in a "sober home".

John Oliver of "Last Week Tonight" did a as how last week about rehabs and how ineffective they were, and I agree. I went to three rehabs in the 1990's, and for me it was a failure, although I did get off of the drug I was addicted to eventually.

There is no such thing as a "Disease of Alcoholism" or a "Disease of Addiction." It is not a disease, it is a choice. The person picks up the bottle, joint, syringe, or pipe. Using drugs and alcohol does change the brain chemistry causing the urge to addiction, but it's like someone who weighs 500 pounds and if referred to having a "Disease of Obesity" instead of addressing his 10,000 calorie a day food habit.

Another thing the rehabs teach is that one is "powerless" over drugs and alcohol. Pure nonsense. I am not powerless, I make a choice and accept the consequences of my choices. Telling people the lie that they are powerless leaps to helplessness, which really gives the addicted person a license to go back to their old behavior because they can't help themselves. Don't get me started on "Spirituality". Praying the drunk away. But don't go to an AA room and say you love Jesus, Allah, Buddha because that is religion. Spirituality is also cow flop. I do not believe I have a soul, or that any explanation of God and the Universe is correct, and many people who are Atheists or practicers of Eastern religion will fall away.

So you have an impressionable 20 year old kid who is told he has a fatal disease he is powerless to control, that he is a danger to himself and the only one who can help him is a God of his own understanding but don't call it Jesus because that is a religion. I mean, take two steps back and see this ridiculous model based on some quack nonsense from about eighty years ago. Of course, the people who perpetuate this cow flop will never take responsibility when one of their patients die, because it is the patient's fault that they are dead, even though again, the patient is "powerless over his disease".

Look how many patients died during the show Celebrity Rehabw, what five or six? Drew Pinsky, a certified medical physician is telling his clients that they have a progressive disease and all that junk. Very few "recovered" and thankfully Pinsky moved on from drug rehabs because he couldn't take the 12 Step religion killing his patients.

Sorry the boy died though. 20? I am 51 and still here, and I have drank a lot of alcohol, done the hard stuff, been in the ghetto numerous times at 3 am, bought and smuggled drugs through airports and international borders. Still here. 20 year old dummy gets on a show and parties too much.

People who have stayed sober after a time of addiction usually learn new habits where the old habits are discarded and becomes unimportant.

It is the person's fault for abusing drugs and alcohol. I did and went to jail, got in trouble, been in bad situations
