I'm sure this has been brought up before, but what are some things that happened on the show that shouldn't have happened or what things do you think were sort of stupid? GG is my favorite comedy, but if I'd change a few things if I could.

1. The episode when Rose's sister Holly came to visit, at the end, Rose and Holly were talking in the kitchen. After they were done, they hadn't made up and Rose says, "goodbye, Holly" and Holly goes off to the bedroom. Then Rose goes out to the living room. I just think that was badly written. I don't know, it just think it should have ended differently.

2. When Dorothy said they would send for Angela's "things" back in Sicily, who was going to pack all her stuff and "send" them back to Miami?

3. The house setup didn't match the outside. The garage was on the right but when you walk into the kitchen, the garage is on the left. There was also a window in the bathroom, but it seems like that window would have gone directly into the kitchen.

4. When Gloria #2 came, Rose says, "so....you two are sisters" to Dorothy and Gloria. Wouldn't she have known that from a couple years earlier when they all had met?

Just had to get these out of my system! Gripe here if you want!
In spite of all of the above, I never get tired of GG and it's still my favorite :talk:

There were quite a few inconsistencies in GG. One thing I wondered was why Sophia had a brother named Angelo and a sister named Angela. Wouldn't that have been a bit confusing? Also, Blanche's daughter Becky was orginally very heavy but when she returned a few seasons later, she was nice and svelte and nothing was mentioned about her amazing weight loss. There are others. But, none of this ever really detracted from my love for the show!!!

Also, what about...

** Blanche's age. It never seemed to be easily determined.

** Dorothy's disease (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). She had it for two episodes, and never again...

**When did Rose move from the TV Station to the hospital (or vice versa)???

** Sophia always seemed to be cooking, but there was no spot for her at the table. And why did DOROTHY always have to sit in the middle??

These are just the start...

The children always had inconsitencies. My biggest grip is with Dorothy's children. We all know she was, "knocked up" while 17 years old. That would make her eldest child at least 40 years old when the show was on. Yet neither of her two children appeared to be beyond their 20's when they came over.

One thing that got to me was if Sophia likes Jello or not? In one episode where Rose brings in a tray of Jello, Sophia said "I hate Jello. If God wanted peaches suspended in midair he would have filled them with Helium." But in another episode when Rose is in the hospital, Sophia says "I'm going to the cafeteria. My Kanasta club give this hopspital's Jello rating three gold stars." Either she likes Jello or she doesn't!

Also...

Wasn't it odd that Myles just "faded out" of the show, and then returned in Golden Palace?

Were some of the "flashback" episodes filmed in one time (rather than collecting from past shows, they made a retrospective show as one complete show)

Did the girls have a TV? Sophia always wanted a big screen, but when Rose was Blanche's vkofenhoffen, she told Dorothy she'd roll the TV into her room. So, where was it?

JUST HOW MANY UNCLES DID ROSE HAVE?!?!?!

These are just a few random thoughts...

Remember when Miles came back to Golden Palace and Blanche was digging through old hotel registration records and found out that Miles had been staying there a lot....and that was the reason that Rose and he finally broke it off? I guess he admitted that he had been "sleeping around" there, but I'm not sure what the whole story was with that.

Another inconsistency regarding Myles concerned his daughter, Carolyn. If Myles had been in the witness protection program, how could he have had contact with his daughter, who came to visit him in Miami and disapproved of his relationship with Rose so soon after her mother's death?

Speaking of Angela and Angelo, remember when Angela came to visit and said that she and Sophia were all that was left of the original family...but later, Angelo came along. Unless Angela showed up after Angelo ever did, but I think Angela was shown first.

Yea, but maybe Nick got married and had children during the Witness Protection Program. Or maybe his family went with him to the WPP, like in that movie, Our Lips Are Sealed. The whole family was in the WPP.

Remember when Blanche had the pacemaker fitted in the Beep Beep Beep of the Tom Tom episode, the girls got rid of their microwave since that would be dangerous for Blanche yet in later episode the microwave was there, when Sophia stuck her head in after Dorothy announced she and Stan got engaged again!

Also, when Blanche's sister Virginia comes to visit and Blanche says that she hates her, Rose asks "How can you hate your sister?" as if it were a foreign idea to her. Yet when Rose's sister Holly comes to visit, she tells the girls that she can't stand her own sister!

I noticed another goof while watching an episode last night. It was the episode where they are reminiscing about past birthdays. There was a flashback to before Sophia moved in the house and the girls were throwing a surprise birthday party for Blanche and Rose invited all the men listed in Blanche's little black book. But in a later episode, the Girls didn't know when Blanche's birthday was but figured it out because she always started going out with very young men around the same time each year!!!

I have a few gripes too...

1. Did Dorothy get knocked up in a Studebaker or a Nash?

2. Was Gunter and Alma Nylund Rose's REAL adopted parents?

3. How come Blanche had never mentioned Tad?

4. How many children did Blanche REALLY have?

5. How many times was Sophia married? I remember she had a 1920 annulment and then she married Sal, and later Max.

6. How come we never saw Max again?

7. Rose and Miles were going to get married, and then it seems we never hear from Miles again...

8. When DID Sophia come from Italy?

9. When did Dorothy marry Stan??? In 1985, it is understood that they had been separated since 1983... yet in one episode, Dorothy admits her wedding was June 1, 1949... but she got knocked up in a '48 Studebaker... or was it a '46... or a '49... or was it a Nash?

Oh well... looks like our gripes will never be answered... we can draw up our own conclusions...

Take Care!

I know someone's probably already mentioned this, but Michael was Dorothy's first born (or was it Kate?) Anyway, Michael was 23 when he first appeared. If Dorothy was only about 19 when she had him, this would make her 42. The first season, Dorothy says she's 55. Not to mention a couple years later, Michael is supposed to be 30. This would still make Dorothy only about 49.

Why were there so many conflicting stories? For example, Rose went to college and studied (Pig) Latin in one ep, then she didn't finish HS due to mono in another. Dorothy had two different experiences at the prom (one with the tennis team and one with the guy dumping her), but she didn't even go to the prom in another ep. And Sophia's Picture It stories...I know she made them up, but the dates of them were waaaaay off. In most of them, she would have only been about 10 or 11.

I wondered the same thing about Dorothy's son. After he and Lorraine got married we never heard anything about them or Dorothy's grandchild.

Who played Blanche's grand son? I think I have seen him in other 80 shows.

We also never hear anything from Blanche's daughter after she has her baby.

Maybe that is what made GG so memorable and why we paid so much attention to all the inconcistencies of hte show.

No matter what I still watch all the reruns and wished that I could see epsidoes again of Golden Palace...I do not rememebr anything about them. Maybe we could send mesages to Lifetime TV and see if they could put that into their schedule.

Actually there is the one episode where Blanche pretends her granddaughter is her daughter to get a guy and her daughter gets mad and threatens to take her and her baby out of Blanche's life.

I found an inconsistency. In one of today's episodes, Blanche was trying
to lose weight to be able to fit into
her wedding dress. In that same episode,
Blanche told Rose that she was NOT married in a white wedding dress. But,
in tonight's episode, the one where
Rose enjoys life to the fullest, Dorothy answers the phone in the middle of the night, if you look below the nightstand, you will notice Blanche in her wedding
dress, which is white, not red.

Maybe that was a picture taken of when she and George possibly renewed their wedding vows, and she wanted to see what white was like.

;)

That's somethin' fun to do, come up with feasible reasons why the inconsistencies can work! :p

This has been commented on several times. Use the search option on the main GG page for "exclamation door" and you'll find lots of information about it.

Also, you can turn your signature off... you should just click the show signature button before you post. I try to do that in a post where I have commented multiple times. It makes it easier to find what you're looking for. Thanks...

Bea Arthur carved an exclamation point (!) into the front door of her TV home in order to bring luck to the fledgling series.

Was Blanche afraid to fly or not? In one episode she says she never got over her fear of flying....in another episode she is on a private plane with her rich fiance with no mention of her fear of flying. In yet another eppie she is on a plane with all the bald men!

To whoever asked about the tv...yes, they did have a television. Blanche and Rose were watching a "I Love Lucy" telethon in one of the eppies. I just don't know where they stored it when they weren't watching it.

Also remember the episode where Sophia was watching the porno...yup they had a TV but did we ever see it? I don't think we did.

Remember Dorothy had to fly to NY with Rose when she went to see the Dr also. She flew alot.

I rememebr one epsiode where they all had fears and were trying to conquer them...I think it was the one where Rose had the fear of public speaking am I right?

How old was Uncle Angelo supposed to be? Close to 100?

In the episode where he is first introduced, the one were Sophia wants Dorothy and Stan to pretend they are still married. When Uncle Angelo confessed he was not a priest, he mentioned that he had been married for 72 years. 72 years?

It wasn't meant as rude. If it were me, I'd rather do some browsing to find the answer than be told "Bea Arthur did it for luck." That's not too exciting of a response. Besides, in doing a search, it could bring up other topics of discussion that Cles may not know about. Seems pretty simple to me.

Thanks for telling me about the "Show Signature" option, I hadn't noticed that before. Maybe less people will hate me now ^_^ .

Also, what's with the sarcastic "Thanks for answering his question" response? I don't get what's going on with this and the "not intended to be rude" post; I can't find any problems.

I am very helpful, I think. I'm trying to encourage more use of the whole board, not just one part. I'm not asking them to search Yahoo, Google, etc. There is a search engine in SOL. You can look up all kinds of stuff in it. THAT is what I meant.

Ok, I have to add my 2 cents. lol I really didn't like the whole Miles in the witness protection program. It just didn't fit well with Rose's and Miles' relationship. It was like their whole relationship was built on a lie. Anyway, on to inaccurate things I've noticed. Remember when Blanche was considering plastic surgery (this was also an episode that featured the tele because Blanche saw herself from the home movie Rose made), Dorothy admitted to having her eyes done. Everyone acted surprised. When the girls were stranded on the island, Dorothy let slip that Rose had her nose done. Why did Rose act squirmish when Blanche was considering plastic surgery if she already experienced it. Also, am I wrong but wasn't uncle Angelo a priest in one episode. The one where Dorothy and Stan had to pretend they were still married for his sake and there was a hurricane coming. Was that uncle Angelo or just the same actor in a different role? I think everyone has hit on most of the blaring inaccuracies. I've never noticed the exclamtion point on the door. Thanks for bringing that up.

jayman75

Angelo promised his mother (Sophia's mother too) on her death bed that he would become a priest. He didn't want to upset the family, so he told them he was, but really he lived like a dirty old man. So, when he appeared in Miami for Dorothy and Stan's anniversary, he was dressed as a priest. But then Dorothy and Stan confessed, he confessed, and Rose and Blanche confessed that they weren't nuns (they were appearing in a play, but the storm kept them home).

And now you know... the REST of the story!

I noticed someone brought up the writers changing. Well, didn't that happen in the middle of the series, causing all the continuity confusions?

It may sound dumb, but could someone explain the whole writers switch thing. I could probably do a search here and find it all out, and I'll do that... Jayman, do you know if a thread happened to be started on that already?

In the episode where Dorothy & Stan had to pretend to be married, Blanche & Rose get sent home from the play because Blanche "announces" There's a hurricane coming!! Well, duh! She says it like it's shocking news. You would think that since they 'live' in Miami that they would've already known about the approaching storm. I've been living in FL since 1977 and believe me, when there's a hurricane even getting close to us, the local news pretty much does constant coverage. Then again, there is alot of talk on this topic about whether the girls had a TV or not. Seems like they don't pay attention to media of any kind.

Another part of an episode that bothers me is the one where Rose is telling Blanche & Dorothy that she got a job at a coffee shop working 12 hrs. a day and she gets half off day old danish. Blanche says, "Do you really want to be slinging hash for a bunch of grubby truckers?" Um, EXCUSE ME! God, I hate that stereotype. I, myself, have been an over-the-road truck driver for the past 12 years and I am far from "grubby" and I know alot of drivers who are like me. I keep myself clean on the road(and sometimes that is harder to do than it sounds, given our schedules), and keep my white Kenworth emaculate inside & out. A comment like that just bugs me, and I know it's not Blanche, it's the writers.
