This is more than likely going to end up on the Andy Griffith Show board, but I think they used ACME at the filling station.

The inference may have been that 'Acme' made the pumps and/or supplied the gasoline, but the filling station was not a franchise, was it? Independent stations were still around until recent decades; now they are very rare.
