That's kind of an apples and oranges argument. Dana Plato's problems were in effect when Diff'rent Strokes was still on the air. She got fired in the second to last season for getting pregnant (although she was allowed back for several guest spots after that). And plus, if we're going to take into account every single troubled child actor, then many reruns might as well be taken off the air.

A better comparison would be if Conrad Bain (who like Bill Cosby, also played a virtuous sitcom dad) was accused of sexually assaulting women.

At least I can differentiate TV characters and real life actors. I don't like Bill Cosby, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the characters he played who didn't rape anybody. But,yes, he needs to be put away.

World Harvest pulled "Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids" from my local affiliate a LONG time ago now, practically as soon as the allegations began coming to light. (They'd been running it weekdays in recent years.)

Up to this point, Cosby has slipped by in the legal system, but the preponderance of stuff has finally started to take hold. I wonder how his age will factor into the sentencing.

Between the recent loss of his daughter, his age/deteriorating physical condition and the walls of prison I just don't see him surviving prison for very long. He also can't spend that wealth in prison or live the lifestyle he's accustomed to while behind bars. He might as well be penniless. He got what he deserved.

I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this. On one hand I think he's guilty but on the other I think something is fishy.

Tim Allen was caught smuggling pounds of cocaine from overseas. This makes him a scumbag to me, yet he had two hit TV shows and many movies.

Like a lot of people here, I thought Bill Cosby was hilarious in the 1970's, with his albums, stand up act and "Fat Albert". I honestly never cared for the 80s sitcom; he came off as a smug jerk to me, but tastes vary.

But I cannot imagine listening to one of his albums again. People say "well, the work is one thing and he is another". Maybe. But for me, patronizing his work would seem like rewarding him, and this is an individual that should not be rewarded. All of these years he used this fake "family guy" image to promote himself and build his empire, and we were all used. If you can compartmentalize his actions and his work, that's fine. Personally, I've erased the pleasure he once gave me from my mind.

power - it gave him the ability to completely control and abuse women and do anything he wanted; when any of them tried to come forward and accuse him of the wrongs he did, he would threaten them, destroy their careers or pay them off.

No, I would say it was Mrs. Cosby is the one who did not consider the evidence re the accusers and ignored her own husband's fessing about drugging other women. Easier to blame others standing up for themselves and trying to use the law the help seek justice than to admit one has stayed married decades to a flagrant adulterer and convicted criminal despite zillions of red flags.

I have only generally followed the case according to what I have heard on radio or TV but I think that throughout Cosby's career, or at least very soon after he became famous, the assaults took place.
He has been a celebrity for such a long time and he I think he was no older than about 30 when he came into the Hollywood scene, and perhaps he took advantage of women before his fame but, so far, only victims who were assaulted during certain years made their allegations

His daughter, Errin was on Phil Donahue's show, and she said she was sexually assaulted by Mike Tyson. She wanted to go to the police but her father wouldn't let her. Bill had her committed in an institution so that she couldn't press chargers. He also sold stories about her to the tabloids so that she would be painted as a crackhead in the press.

Sure he may have talent as an actor and comedian and writer but I never particularly liked his shows or movies or whatever. I think one of his commercials for Jell-O pudding was funny. He was sometimes funny on Captain Kangaroo with "Picture Pages" which some of you may remember.
I actually could agree with some of his political statements at times.

To me he is just a celebrity who has been around a long time and who did different things in his show-business career and has been featured in different TV series and who a majority of people just grew up and/or grew old with.

But if I did specifically like his TV show(s) or movies or whatever, I think I would still be able to watch his old shows or listen to his interviews or read his books or look at his old commercials, etc. I think I can separate the art from the artist.
I guess too , that with a lot of people who did particularly like him as a celebrity and actor and writer and the way in which, publicly, he just came across as a person, and don't forget a lot of people liked him because he had some conservative political views and thought of him as something of a role model if not out rightly a role model because of how he as a black man became successful, etc, etc, now to find out that he had been drugging and assaulting women for decades, it has an opposite psychological effect and people who thought so highly of him and his art , are now finding themselves feeling so much at the opposite spectrum.

It is sad.
What comes to my mind is that Bill Cosby is a man who himself grew up sometime in the 1930s and is of an older time. As a man he probably has always felt that it is important to a man's masculinity to "dominate" women.
It probably did not occur to him much that he is committing acts of sexual assault.

I wonder why Mrs. Cosby stayed in the marriage. Why do spouses stay in relationships with spouses who cheat? No excuse for that, and the faithful partner should pull up stakes, leave and get a divorce lawyer. Half of the vast Cosby estate is hers. Hopefully when Bill goes to prison, she might be able to get some peace and maybe some therapy.

If you are going to cheat, why not just have a couple of mistresses, or discreet call girls or something. Bill Cosby seemed to just drugging and dominating women for some reason, which makes me wonder how he treated his own wife.

And Cos has pulled this crap for FIFTY plus years or so. This is a serial rape and abuse. Cos almost made the end of his life. Maybe he will soon die and fade away like Joe Paterno, but it would be interesting to see what he will be like in the joint, and where they will house him, probably in isolation.

I find it sad when people cannot separate his work from his personal life and take his shows off the air, unless it benefits him financially. Now I don't know what shows he benefits from financially but I find taking his shows off to be a huge disservice to fans, and frankly, censorship, IMHO.
