I was so sad to hear it. But nevertheless, it still will not stop me from watching the Cosby Show. MA 04-26-2018, 02:05 PM Hopefully the show won't be pulled from TVOne and Bounce because of all this. TMC 04-26-2018, 03:49 PM Bill Cosby found guilty on all counts in sexual assault retrial (http://www.philly.com/philly/news/cosby/bill-cosby-guilty-trial-verdict-sexual-assault-20180426.html) The iconic 80-year-old comedian (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5661907/Guilty-Bill-Cosby-lashes-DA-asks-bail-revoked.html) who became "America's Dad" thanks to The Cosby Show was convicted (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/bill-cosby-found-guilty.1560579/) on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, and now faces up to 10 years in prison. The former Temple University employee said she had looked at Cosby as a father-figure and mentor until the night in 2004 when the incident at his home took place. Numerous women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct, but Constand's allegation was the only one to go to trial. The first trial ended in a hung jury last summer. Cosby's conviction (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/21078484-bill-cosby-found-guilty!!!) is the first of the #MeToo era. Larry Wilmore on the Bill Cosby verdict: "I still haven't forgotten about you motherf*cker!" (https://twitter.com/larrywilmore/status/989563869755404288) Wilmore has had a special distaste for the iconic comedian, who was convicted of sexual assault (https://www.tvtattle.com/item/Bill-Cosby-found-guilty-on-all-counts-in-sexual-assault-retrial-d1S7p9) today, making a point to devote the entire second episode (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-larry-wilmore-and-guests-tackle-bill-cosby-20150121-story.html) of The Nightly Show on Comedy Central to his sexual misconduct allegations. "I still haven't forgotten about you motherf*cker!" Wilmore tweeted upon hearing the news. "More importantly, I haven't forgotten about the many women you assaulted and silenced with your power. (https://twitter.com/larrywilmore/status/989564948014514177) Good riddance!!!" Wilmore's canceled show devoted a lot of time to Cosby (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%22nightly+show%22+cosby), including an "I Haven't Forgotten About You, Motherf**ker Update." (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J76aoP-Wmgk) Wilmore explained his dislike of Cosby in The Hollywood Reporter in 2015: "He was never a hero of mine," (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/larry-wilmore-reveals-roots-bill-767446) he said. "I liked Cosby, but I have a different relationship with him than a lot of people because I didn't grow up on The Cosby Show." Also, Wilmore says, Cosby was an "a**hole" to him and his mom when they asked for his autograph when he was a kid. ALSO: Twitter cheers Hannibal Buress, who made Cosby's sexual assault allegations go viral in 2014 (http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/celebrities/hannibal-buress-bill-cosby-joke-video-sexual-assault-trial-guilty-social-media-reaction-20180426.html) Buress has yet to tweet reaction to the verdict (https://twitter.com/hannibalburess) Rose McGowan and other #MeToo movement leaders react to the verdict (http://ew.com/news/2018/04/26/celebrities-react-cosby-verdict/) Cosby called the district attorney an "a**hole" after the verdict (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/bill-cosby-convicted-sexual-assault-by-jury-1105784) Watch crowd chant "Rapist!" as Cosby leaves the courtroom (https://twitter.com/RoigFranzia/status/989576393485844480) Bounce TV drops The Cosby Show reruns following the verdict (http://deadline.com/2018/04/the-cosby-show-reruns-removed-bounce-tv-guilty-bill-cosby-verdict-1202377699/) um 04-26-2018, 06:16 PM Didn't Dana Plato once rob a bank and still Di'ffrent Strokes" reruns were not taken off the air? TMC 04-26-2018, 07:56 PM Didn't Dana Plato once rob a bank and still Di'ffrent Strokes" reruns were not taken off the air? Didn't Freddie Prinze kill himself and Chico and The Man reruns were not taken off the air ? That's kind of an apples and oranges argument. Dana Plato's problems were in effect when Diff'rent Strokes was still on the air. She got fired in the second to last season for getting pregnant (although she was allowed back for several guest spots after that). And plus, if we're going to take into account every single troubled child actor, then many reruns might as well be taken off the air. A better comparison would be if Conrad Bain (who like Bill Cosby, also played a virtuous sitcom dad) was accused of sexually assaulting women. Chico and the Man has never done well in syndication (http://rec.arts.tv.narkive.com/XjTOPGcp/why-no-chico-the-man-reruns) or on DVD because of Freddie Prinze's suicide. GUILTY!!!! Svenfan1234 04-26-2018, 09:49 PM Exactly. It blows my mind how some people are standing by him because they grew up watching him on TV. Like, really? SERIOUSLY?! At least I can differentiate TV characters and real life actors. I don't like Bill Cosby, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the characters he played who didn't rape anybody. But,yes, he needs to be put away. biffbronson 04-26-2018, 10:05 PM World Harvest pulled "Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids" from my local affiliate a LONG time ago now, practically as soon as the allegations began coming to light. (They'd been running it weekdays in recent years.) Up to this point, Cosby has slipped by in the legal system, but the preponderance of stuff has finally started to take hold. I wonder how his age will factor into the sentencing. TMC 04-27-2018, 02:41 AM Between the recent loss of his daughter, his age/deteriorating physical condition and the walls of prison I just don't see him surviving prison for very long. He also can't spend that wealth in prison or live the lifestyle he's accustomed to while behind bars. He might as well be penniless. He got what he deserved. tlc38tlc38 04-27-2018, 04:54 PM I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this. On one hand I think he's guilty but on the other I think something is fishy. I still enjoy "The Cosby Show" and always will. This has nothing to do with if he's truly guilty or not but I cannot stand Gloria Allred. She thinks she's all that but she ain't ****. Self-righteous loud mouth. TMC 04-27-2018, 08:40 PM Interesting article, discusses the cognitive dissonance between the values learned from Bill Cosby and his TV character Cliff Huxtable, versus the reveal of his true character. Cliff Huxtable Was Bill Cosby’s Sickest Joke (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/26/arts/television/cosby-show-african-americans.html) NEWSER) – As an African-American kid growing up in the 1990s, Wesley Morris loved the Cosby Show. Now as an adult, Morris has to reconcile the character he once idolized with the sexual predator who portrayed him. Thursday's guilty verdict against Bill Cosby can't undo what the entertainer did to his victims, but "it also can’t undo what he once did for me, which was to make me believe in myself," the cultural critic writes in the New York Times. "I don’t want to lose that belief, just the man who ennobled me to possess it in the first place," he writes. Now, as others in the country are doing with fallen icons, he must "cleave" the comedian from his work. "If a sexual predator wanted to come up with a smoke screen for his ghastly conquests, he couldn’t do better than Cliff Huxtable," writes Morris. And he finds a painful irony at the heart of that. "Cosby made blackness palatable to a country historically conditioned to think the worst of black people," writes Morris. "And to pull that off, he had to find a morally impeccable presentation of himself and his race." He did so, not only in Cliff Huxtable but in his entire public persona. "But Mr. Cosby might have managed to pull a fast one, using his power and wealth to become the predator that white America mythologized in a campaign to terrorize, torture and kill black people for centuries, " writes Morris. "Mr. Cosby told lots of jokes. This was his sickest one." biffbronson 04-27-2018, 09:41 PM The thing I'll never understand is why someone of Cosby's fame and steadily increasing wealth ever felt the need to resort to drugging women's drinks. The case has been built solidly and I think most people acknowledge that it's clear he used that means with women -- but we'll likely never really know why he chose such a damnable path, with "escort" services and other "affordable" hidden sex industries not exactly difficult to find. king of comedy 04-27-2018, 10:13 PM The only thing he'll have in jail are Jello pudding and coca cola. He's sick. He had a nice family and a good wife and it wasn't enough. This makes him a scumbag to me, yet he had two hit TV shows and many movies. Retro4Life 04-28-2018, 02:36 PM Like a lot of people here, I thought Bill Cosby was hilarious in the 1970's, with his albums, stand up act and "Fat Albert". I honestly never cared for the 80s sitcom; he came off as a smug jerk to me, but tastes vary. But I cannot imagine listening to one of his albums again. People say "well, the work is one thing and he is another". Maybe. But for me, patronizing his work would seem like rewarding him, and this is an individual that should not be rewarded. All of these years he used this fake "family guy" image to promote himself and build his empire, and we were all used. If you can compartmentalize his actions and his work, that's fine. Personally, I've erased the pleasure he once gave me from my mind. Or I should say HE erased it with his despicable behavior. SitcomsHeydayfan 04-28-2018, 02:57 PM They can't give him LIFE in prison soon enough! JamesG 05-03-2018, 10:32 AM Camille Cosby Calls Bill Cosby’s Guilty Charge “Mob Justice” in Startling Statement by Peter White May 3, 2018 Camille Cosby has spoken publicly for the first time since her husband Bill Cosby was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004 – calling it “mob justice”. Camille Cosby, who has been married to Bill since 1964, has gone after the Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, the media and Cosby’s accusers in a statement that alludes to racial injustice. “The overall media, with their frenzied, relentless demonization of him and unquestioning acceptance of accusers’ allegations without any attendant proof, have superseded the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which guarantee due process and equal protection, and thereby eliminated the possibility of a fair trial and unbiased jury. Bill Cosby was labelled as guilty because the media and accusers said so,” she said. “In the case of Bill Cosby, unproven accusations evolved into lynch mobs, who publicly and privately coerced cancellations of Bill Cosby’s scheduled performances; syndications of “The Cosby Show”; rescissions of honorary degrees and a vindictive attempt to close an exhibition of our collection of African American art in the Smithsonian Museum of African Art,” she added. She accused the district attorney’s office of an “unethical campaign” to destroy her husband and has called for a criminal investigation of “that district attorney and his cohorts.” She evoked the trials of Emmett Till in 1955 and Darryl Hunt in 1994 in the near 1,000 rant. “How much longer will we, the majority of the people, tolerate judicial, executive, legislative, media and corporate abuses of power? We, the majority of the people, must make America what it has declared itself to be…. a democracy…not to be destroyed by vicious, lying, self-absorbed paradigms of evilness. Once again, an innocent person has been found guilty based on an unthinking, unquestioning, unconstitutional frenzy propagated by the media and allowed to play out in a supposed court of law… This is mob justice, not real justice.” http://deadline.com/2018/05/camille-cosby-bill-cosby-mob-justice-guilty-1202381818/ PracTz 05-03-2018, 10:56 AM No, I would say it was Mrs. Cosby is the one who did not consider the evidence re the accusers and ignored her own husband's fessing about drugging other women. Easier to blame others standing up for themselves and trying to use the law the help seek justice than to admit one has stayed married decades to a flagrant adulterer and convicted criminal despite zillions of red flags. I have only generally followed the case according to what I have heard on radio or TV but I think that throughout Cosby's career, or at least very soon after he became famous, the assaults took place. He has been a celebrity for such a long time and he I think he was no older than about 30 when he came into the Hollywood scene, and perhaps he took advantage of women before his fame but, so far, only victims who were assaulted during certain years made their allegations TMC 05-17-2018, 01:09 PM I used to love Fat Albert as a child, and it was a nice show which taught moral lessons, and Cosby to me was the much cooler and hip version of Mr. Rogers. His daughter, Errin was on Phil Donahue's show, and she said she was sexually assaulted by Mike Tyson. She wanted to go to the police but her father wouldn't let her. I did want to buy Fat Alber and the Cosby Kids but not anymore. Also, I hate Phylicia Rashad. I really can't stand her. Smug, arrogant both on the show and in person. um 05-26-2018, 05:56 PM IDK. If he is guilty which he apparently is, then he has to spend time in prison. Sure he may have talent as an actor and comedian and writer but I never particularly liked his shows or movies or whatever. I think one of his commercials for Jell-O pudding was funny. He was sometimes funny on Captain Kangaroo with "Picture Pages" which some of you may remember. I actually could agree with some of his political statements at times. To me he is just a celebrity who has been around a long time and who did different things in his show-business career and has been featured in different TV series and who a majority of people just grew up and/or grew old with. But if I did specifically like his TV show(s) or movies or whatever, I think I would still be able to watch his old shows or listen to his interviews or read his books or look at his old commercials, etc. I think I can separate the art from the artist. I guess too , that with a lot of people who did particularly like him as a celebrity and actor and writer and the way in which, publicly, he just came across as a person, and don't forget a lot of people liked him because he had some conservative political views and thought of him as something of a role model if not out rightly a role model because of how he as a black man became successful, etc, etc, now to find out that he had been drugging and assaulting women for decades, it has an opposite psychological effect and people who thought so highly of him and his art , are now finding themselves feeling so much at the opposite spectrum. It is sad. What comes to my mind is that Bill Cosby is a man who himself grew up sometime in the 1930s and is of an older time. As a man he probably has always felt that it is important to a man's masculinity to "dominate" women. It probably did not occur to him much that he is committing acts of sexual assault. Yong Fang 05-27-2018, 09:32 AM I wonder why Mrs. Cosby stayed in the marriage. Why do spouses stay in relationships with spouses who cheat? No excuse for that, and the faithful partner should pull up stakes, leave and get a divorce lawyer. Half of the vast Cosby estate is hers. Hopefully when Bill goes to prison, she might be able to get some peace and maybe some therapy. If you are going to cheat, why not just have a couple of mistresses, or discreet call girls or something. Bill Cosby seemed to just drugging and dominating women for some reason, which makes me wonder how he treated his own wife. And Cos has pulled this crap for FIFTY plus years or so. This is a serial rape and abuse. Cos almost made the end of his life. Maybe he will soon die and fade away like Joe Paterno, but it would be interesting to see what he will be like in the joint, and where they will house him, probably in isolation. Impressions 06-24-2018, 11:29 AM I find it sad when people cannot separate his work from his personal life and take his shows off the air, unless it benefits him financially. Now I don't know what shows he benefits from financially but I find taking his shows off to be a huge disservice to fans, and frankly, censorship, IMHO. |
