Classic kids game show "Double Dare" is returning to Nickelodeon. The network has ordered 40 new episodes for a new generation of trivia, stunts, wringers, hamster wheels and nose picking. Premiere is slated for this summer.

Nickelodeon says the new version will feature the gameplay and challenges its original millennial audiences remember from the show, as well as appearances from blasts from the past and stars from today.

Will Marc and Harvey be involved?

Well, Marc & Harvey are in their 60s now because they done it during the late 80s & early 90s. But the 2018 Double Dare revival will have new host & a new announcer.

So what if he's in his 60s? I won't be watching if Marc doesn't come back (actually I will, out of curiosity).

A couple weeks ago I saw a posting on Facebook from Buzzerblog which is another great source of info on gameshows, it said that Double Dare will begin casting soon in LA and they are just casting kids 10-14.

So it looks like the show will be more like the 1986-1989 version of DD and not the "Family Double Dare of 1990-1993". I would have preferred FDD because I'm sure that kids that grew up during the original DD days would appreciate and respect the gameshow more than today's 10-14 year olds. It would have been cool to have Moms and Dads on the show in 2018, who watched the 1986-1993 run as kids.

Marc Sommers is a jackass. All he does nowadays is pick fights with people that post old DD clips or slightly badmouth him on instagram.

.

My children auditioned for this last week. We are waiting to here back. They are asking parents of the kids who are auditioning if they are interested in participating with their kids. So it sounds like they are considering doing FDD also.

I also heard Marc may host. I didn’t hear anything about Harvey.

Marc Summers is set to return for Nickelodeon's Double Dare reboot, but not as host (http://www.tmz.com/2018/05/22/double-dare-reboot-host-marc-summers/)
The original Double Dare host will serve as an executive producer on the rebooted kids' game show and he'll have an on-camera role, according to TMZ. But he won't be the host. TMZ says Summers was a "quick hire" after the reboot announcement was made. Summers hasn't confirmed his involvement, but he teased (https://twitter.com/Ibatvmc/status/997815555506683904) an upcoming Double Dare announcement in a tweet on Saturday.

Double Dare announces new host Liza Koshy and confirms Marc Summers' involvement (https://www.eonline.com/news/937812/double-dare-taps-liza-koshy-as-host-brings-back-marc-summers-in-new-role)
Koshy, an actress and "digital creator," will succeed Summers as host of the classic Nickelodeon game show when it's rebooted this summer. Summers will be part of the show by offering color commentary and lending his knowledge of the game to each episode. "It's an honor to be a part of this reboot," Summers said in a statement. "This is a dream that I have been dreaming to live! From watching Double Dare to hosting it!? I am ready for a summer of slime and nose picking," added Koshy.

I had found the last word in the first sentence of your message to had been used in a very rude and unnecessary way.

"Double Dare's" Marc Summers Previews Show's Slimy Revival, New Obstacles
by Samuel Gelman
June 24, 2018

Nickelodeon’s fans from the ’80s are all grown up, but the kid-centric network hasn’t forgotten about them. The network, know for its youth-friendly game shows of the 1980s and ’90s, is bringing back one of its classic hits: "Double Dare".

"Double Dare" originally aired from 1986–1993 (and had a quick revival in 2000 that lasted less than a year). The show pitted two groups of contestants against each other in a trivia battle where one team could dare the other team to answer the proposed question or make them participate in slimy physical challenges.

The winner of that round would move on to the obstacle course, a grab-bag of eight wacky and slime-filled challenges that the contestants had to complete in 60 seconds.

Now, the show is back, and it’s bringing the slime with it.

“I’m just excited to be a part of it in so many different ways. It was a show that was critical to my career and also critical to Nickelodeon,” said Marc Summers, host of the original series, ahead of the June 25 premiere.

“To be able to reunite after all these years is just fun.”

The revival will have many hallmarks of the original, including the team trivia, the dare-double dare-physical challenge format and the signature, slime-tastic obstacle course. Since the show aired 30 years ago, Summers said he is excited for his now-grown-up fans to indulge in the nostalgia while also sharing their childhood experience with their own kids.

“What we have now is a situation where — maybe for the first time in Nickelodeon’s history — parents who grew up watching Nickelodeon programming have kids the same age they were when they started watching Nickelodeon,” he told TVLine.

“And I think it is a bonding and sharing experience.”

Of course, not everything will remain the same. Liza Koshy, a YouTube comedian with nearly 15 million subscribers, will step into Summers’ shoes and serve as host of the revival. Summers will offer color commentary on the physical challenges and serve as executive producer.

“It’s an interesting combination, because there are grown ups who want to see Marc Summers and then they have kids who have no idea who Marc Summers is, unless maybe they watched Unwrapped or something,” said Summers, referring to the Food Network show he hosted from 2001 to 2011.

“It’s a whole different flavor. If you are tuning in to see what Double Dare was, it’s not that. It’s something different. It’s something for 2018.”

This balance of old and new is best displayed in the "Double Dare" obstacle course. Returning challenges include fan favorite Pick It, where the contestants must stick their hands up a giant nose and find the flag, as well as The Wringer, The Tank and Down the Hatch (or Big Mouth as it is known by the Double Dare 2000 crew).

They will be joined by newcomers Overstuffed, a giant bear waiting to be unstuffed, Tube-A-Totter, a Plexiglas tube filled with slime, and Couch Surfing, a dirty couch with a flag hidden within its crevices.

“It’s bigger. It’s louder. The obstacle course may be about 20 percent bigger than it was back in the day. It’s a mixture of old and new,” Summers said.

"Double Dare" will premiere Monday, June 25, at 8/7c.

Seems like it but it should’ve been better if the Double Dare revival has a young announcer instead of Marc.

Double Dare reboot does an excellent job of balancing the old and new (https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2018/06/new-double-dare-review/)
The way the Nickelodeon revival uses original host Marc Summers is perfect because he gets a lot of screen time without interfering with new host Liza Koshy's job.

Why is that you think?

Relax, Its Just 50/50 mix of Wishful Thinking & What If. But as far as the revival realistically goes, Marc will make sure Liza Koshy’s hosting on Double Dare 2018 is protected.

Well according to his and Nickelodeons instagram page, basically he will just be barking tips at kids as they gonthrough the obstacle course. Nothing mentioned about him being the announcer. Doubt hed want to plug products and prizes anyway.

I've watched a few episodes of the new Double Dare, and this show is truly well-done. It mixes retro and new very well, and Liza is great as a host. Marc IS announcing and is providing color commentary. 100x better than the Double Dare 2000 abomination!!

Double Dare revival sparks trademark dispute (http://www.tmz.com/2018/07/09/double-dare-trademark-dispute-viacom-sues-company/)
Viacom let its classic game show's trademark expire in 2001 and 2002, which allowed a man with a history of squatting on classic kids' show titles to obtain the trademark to Double Dare earlier this year. Now Viacom is suing to get a judge to declare that Double Dare belongs to Nickelodeon.
