Benedict Cumberbatch Calls Martin Freeman’s "Sherlock" Criticisms 'Pathetic'

It seems that "Sherlock" stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have a difference of opinion when it comes to the current direction of the Masterpiece series at PBS.

In an interview last month with The Telegraph, Freeman, who plays the titular character’s partner-in-solving-crime John Watson, referred to the show as a “mini-Beatles thing.”

He said by the fourth season, making "Sherlock" has become “kind of impossible.” His constructive criticism continued and he added that with the expectations of the show’s fanbase, “it’s not fun anymore.”

Cumberbatch, who plays the iconic and eccentric titular sleuth, chimed in on Freeman’s critiques in a recent interview with The Telegraph.

“It’s pretty pathetic if that’s all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality,” said Cumberbatch. “What, because of expectations? I don’t know. I don’t necessarily agree with that… I just don’t feel affected by that in the same way, I have to say.”

Cumberbatch and Freeman’s difference of opinion on the Masterpiece series is probably for the best since there are no plans for a fifth season of the series.

The fourth season ended over a year ago and there haven’t been any solid plans for a fifth. However, last year at Comic-Con, EP Sue Vertue mentioned they were working on something but said “we’re not telling what it is.”
