to be on so may teams at Mayfield High? Football, Basketball, Track, Swimming, Baseball? It seems almost impossible.

Well they probably weren't all at the same time. Maybe basketball, football and swimming (indoor pool) in fall /winter and track and baseball in spring! ;)

Or another inconsistency ,because it was different sports depending on the ep.;) ;) The audience wasn't supposed to remember or pay attention that he went out for all these sports !

We're not supposed to notice these things.

The inconsistencies were probably less noticeable over 6 years than 3 to 6 months. Put another way, week to week vs. day to day.

Some of these sports used to have shorter seasons and it was "ok" for a person to play football and wrestle for 2-3 weeks. My dad lettered in 4 sports during his junior year: football, wrestling, track and baseball. He attended HS in the early 50s.

It seems Beaver became an instant all round athlete in the last 2 years of the show. I always think of Beaver as not being good in sports but watching the last couple of seasons recently it seems Beaver is now a champ football player, part-time thug ready to beat anybody up he doesn't like and all round champion in whatever else sport is brought up. How did Beaver become such a sudden tough guy and a Jim Thorpe overnight?

That was a bit inconsistent with the early Beaver. He was not a good baseball player in Beaver the Athlete but at the end he was quite good. The older boys never let him play basketball so later in Younger Brother he was kicked off the team the first day. He seemed to excel in football early like in Beaver’s Team. Later he was quite good. He never ran track or handball but was good at walking. Ward should have taught him golf.
