America Ferrera is celebrating her 34th birthday. She acted in school productions as a girl, and made her screen debut in 2002; she starred in the feature Real Women Have Curves and on the Disney Channel movie Gotta Kick It Up! She made some additional TV appearances before being cast as one of the four teenage protagonists in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. In 2006, Ferrera was cast as the lead character, Betty Suarez, on ABC’s Ugly Betty. She won Emmy and Golden Globe awards during the show’s four-season run.

During Ugly Betty’s run, Ferrera returned to the role of Carmen Lowell for the second Sisterhood film and had a small role in the Mexican-American production Under the Same Moon. Over the past several years, she has been the voice of Astrid Hofferson in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, and starred as Helen Chavez in the biopic César Chávez, and had supporting roles in films such as End of Watch and Special Correspondents. She can currently be seen starring on NBC’s Superstore, now in its third season with a fourth to follow; she is also a producer on the series.
