View Full Version : The First Time
RoryGilmore 04-17-2018, 03:09 AM After all these years I am still somewhat under the impression that Natalie wasn't the first girl to lose their virginity. So who do you guys think was? To Whom?
Personally I believe Jo and Eddie before she came to Peekskill.
However, I must add that unlike today's teen shows the writers did make the girls much more wholesome so maybe it was really Natalie in season 9.
Thoughts?
'80sSitcoms 04-17-2018, 11:48 AM I go with the show, Natalie was the first.
TV Guy 04-19-2018, 06:26 AM I also buy that Natalie was the first. That was the whole point of the episode.
Realistic? Not sure. I grew up at the same time and I don’t think 100% of girls were virgins until their college years. But on this show, they were.

Nancy and Roger. I suspect they were doing it as early as Season One, but definitely by Season Two, when Natalie made that crack about Nancy being loose. And Nancy was pregnant by Season Eight, so she definitely was having sex before Natalie had sex with Snake.
'80sSitcoms 05-16-2018, 05:51 PM ^---Great point RG, when you bring the Lost Girls into play. Personally, I don't like to think Nancy and Roger were having sex by season 2, but I do believe she and Roger "fell into sin" along the way, lol (not being morality policy, I just thought I'd use that phrase for a laugh, lol).

 But if Nancy and Roger weren't doing it, were they really limiting themselves to make-out sessions and skinny-dipping for seven years? That seems like a stretch...
Impressions 05-17-2018, 10:33 PM I didn't buy that Natalie was the first. We all know it was Mrs. Garrett ;)

Haha! True...

Maybe not for all 7 seasons, but I like to think that Mrs. Garrett's influence had some hold over all her girls, and that Nancy could keep her pants on for at least a couple of seasons. ;)

Nancy couldn't keep her pants on even during the first season!

Ha!
Except that in "Dieting", she was actually fighting every ounce of her being to squeeze those pants on! lol

But we know Nancy also went skinny-dipping with Roger... You don't think she kept her pants on while skinny-dipping, do you?

No, lol, but how do we know they skinny-dipped? I can't recall what dialogue that episode is in. We do know she and Roger came back from Cooper's Rock with poison ivy in season 2*, and that they also came back going steady, lol (which is a good line, but a bit odd, as they seemed completely exclusive in season 1!).
*(while the episode this is referenced in is "Dear Me" from season 3, Jo says she heard that "last year" she and Roger came back with poison ivy, so that occurred off-screen in season 2, lol)

It's in Dear Me (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6cM93ULT3M), about two minutes in. Zach says they'll go skinny-dipping, and Natalie confirms the group had gone skinny dipping last year, too.
The poison ivy reference confirms, to me, that things definitely got serious between Roger and Nancy by Season Two. And you're right about them being steady in Season One, so maybe Nancy's memory is faulty, or maybe they broke up briefly sometime between Season One and the skinny-dipping/poison ivy/Cooper's Rock camping trip in Season Two.
'80sSitcoms 05-18-2018, 03:12 PM Oo that's a good point, they could have broken it off briefly; although if they did, it was probably due to parental disapproval. And maybe by season 2, they were a year older and a little bolder, and said "to hell with it" and reunited.
Nancy "Rebel" Olson!
RetroGuy2000 05-18-2018, 03:39 PM Do you really think their parents could have broken up Nancy and Roger? This was quite possibly the longest romance during FOL's run: longer than Tootie and Jeff, longer than Snake and Natalie, and far, far longer than Jo and... whoever that guy she married after, like, four episodes, was.
I believe if Nancy and Roger broke up, it would be because of a spat they'd have. Nancy had a fiery temper when it came to romance.
'80sSitcoms 05-18-2018, 03:57 PM Do you really think their parents could have broken up Nancy and Roger?
Well sure, they were only 15 in season 1 (at least Nancy was; we can't bec exactly sure of Roger). I mean, I believe their parents could have broken them up for the summer, keeping them separated. Then when Eastland and Bates started up again, they ran right back to each other with no parents around. ;)

That's plausible too, especially if she caught Roger eyeing or making a pass at another girl, but we don't want Roger to be a "dog"; so, if they broke it off for a while, I like to think their parents just kept them quarantined during the summer of '80, lol.

Okay, that I could believe.

That makes sense.

In one episode, Nancy did find out that Roger made a date with Blair for the ballet in NYC. She found out in the episode called "Gossip" when Tootie becomes a blabbermouth.

Yep!! And Nancy had suuuuuch a temper! That poor globe...

Oo, true, he even told Blair---and this is a direct quote---"What Nancy doesn't know won't hurt her". And he lied to Nancy that he couldn't meet up with her when she was in NYC on the Eastland trip because he "was stuck with relatives". So we can infer from Roger's dubiousness and his lying that he had dishonorable intentions. I like to think though that he didn't want anything serious with Blair, but probably just really wanted a date with her for the experience of going on a date with Blair Warner.
Anyway, after Nancy found out about Blair and Roger and blasted Blair with the scoop full of ice, maybe where she went stomping off to afterward was over to Bates and to tell off Roger and break up with him; only temporarily, of course, as we know Nancy and Roger are soulmates, and on the Bates-Eastland trip to Cooper's Rock that year, of course they found their way back to each other, returned with poison ivy, and returned going steady. ;)
Wow, this is fun! I never noticed before these subtle details of Nancy and Roger's relationship that you can connect with narrative dots to make it all work out, lol. Go writing staff!
RetroGuy2000 05-18-2018, 11:59 PM Well, the early seasons of FOL did have a pretty good continuity going on, but it's up to us super-fans to connect the dots on many of the details!
