Hey, you know who's great? Bonnie Hunt (https://www.quora.com/Why-isnt-Bonnie-Hunt-a-much-bigger-star). Yeah, Bonnie Hunt! Few performers are as comforting and welcoming a presence in a movie or TV show—and a guarantee of rapid-fire jokes—as Bonnie Hunt. Hunt has been popping up with supporting roles in movies both big and small, and as the star of her own multiple sitcoms, for almost 30 years now, improving everything she's in with her sharp, crackling, quirky wit honed in the Chicago live comedy scene. For a while there, it seemed like there was always a Bonnie Hunt movie in the theaters, like Cheaper by the Dozen, or a Bonnie Hunt TV show on the air, like Life with Bonnie, The Bonnie Hunt Show, or several other series whose titles incorporated the famous name of the actress/writer/director/producer/host. Hunt doesn't appear on screen as much as she used to—and here are a few of the reasons why that may be.

Why isn't Bonnie Hunt a much bigger star? (https://www.quora.com/Why-isnt-Bonnie-Hunt-a-much-bigger-star)

While she has in been in financially successful films, she’s never helmed them - Unfortunately for Ms. Hunt no one lined up (nor is lining up) to see projects in which she is the major draw. That lack of box office appeal means that she isn’t going to be a major star at this point in her life.

She’s funny…but not that funny - While Hunt is a decent comedian and comedic actor, she’s not funny in a manner that makes her stand out. Perhaps if she had spent some more time doing stand up she could have developed more of a following that would have boosted her film and television careers.

She’s attractive…but not too attractive - #Metoo aside, Hollywood is still, and likely as will always be, a “looks” business. While Ms. Hunt is an attractive woman, she’s not a head turner , nor is she a “sexpot.” There’s not much about her appearance that lends itself to her physical charms being used to enhance her career and that’s often a reason that actors are not successful.

She got too early a start on “mommy roles.” - Hunt portrayed a “mommy” in the 1992 film Beethoven when she was just 31 years old. Few producers were going to look at her and state that she was someone who they could cast as an ingenue or a love interest and that was never going to help her career. She doubled down on the wife/mother roles and thus she never established a career as her being a single woman character. Now that she is nearing her 60th birthday, those roles are far behind her and she’ll mainly be considered for “matronly” and “grandmotherly” roles in the future.

She wasn’t successful in television - While she’s good friends with former talk show host and producer David Letterman (who helped her produce her first sitcom The Bonnie Hunt Show (aka Bonnie) their first venture not a success. Hunt had a pilot that was not picked up and then another series Life With Bonnie that ran for two years. She also had a talk show (Again titled The Bonnie Hunt Show) that was nominated for Daytime Emmys, but only lasted two seasons, Television seems to have been the most likely one where Hunt would have experienced success; however she did not and her star has dimmed even further.
