South Park has been Comedy Central's longest-running animated series, running for 21 seasons. But it wasn't their first, that was Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, which South Park was more than a worthy successor to.
But since then, every animated series on Comedy Central that has premiered after South Park did has met its end. Even the most promising of potential heir apparents are no longer producing new episodes - those shows being Drawn Together, Futurama (a show it inherited from Fox), and Brickleberry.
The two most recent victims of the "South Park heir apparent curse" are Legends of Chamberlain Heights and Jeff & Some Aliens, both were canceled last year.
As of this writing, no new animated series appear to be at development at Comedy Central. Have they recognized that none of the new animated shows they may put on the schedule will ever be as good as the one? Or what is going on?
One reason may be because South Park is a lot less time consuming of course only taking seven days to make an episode, and most likely it is cheap to produce. Something that other shows don't compete well with.
