Can you think of any spin-offs that shouldn't of happened despite the success of their parent show or movie?

Some I can think of are:

- The Ropers
- Three's A Crowd
- The Golden Palace
- Clueless

I thought The Golden Palace was pretty good. Don Cheadle and Cheech Marin along with the girls kept it interesting for me.

I actually liked "The Ropers", "Three's a Crowd", & "The Golden Palace".

"Clueless" was ok and had its moments but just wasn't as good without Alicia Silverstone.

How about the Living Dolls, which was the spinoff of Who's The Boss? It was the first cancelled show in 1989. Also, a couple of years later Saved By The Bell: The College Years.

The Golden Palace just wasn't the same without Dorothy. I really wanted to love the two-part episode where Dorothy returns, but the direction and writing were very off in the second episode, which ruined the reunion for me. It was as if, suddenly, part way through the production, everyone got stiff, forgot her lines and/or blocking, and no one bothered to try to do another take. That was just odd.

Clueless was quite good, at least for a while.

Three's a Crowd was horrible. I can't believe they jettisoned Janet for that waste of videotape they called a spin-off.

LD was bad.

With a little work, SBTB the College Years could have been decent. They needed better writers, but they had a (mostly) likeable cast with good chemistry. Getting Tiffany back was a step in the right direction.

I don't remember Janet on Three's a crowd. If I remember John Ritters character moved in with Vicki and it was the character of Jack's new life. Did Joyce/Janet make an appearance???

I don't think she made any appearances. Joyce DeWitt left Hollywood for a while after what she experienced.

Three’s a Crowd could have worked with a more dynamic female lead. Also, EZ was a ridiculously one-dimensional character, and as good as Robert Mandan was, his character was unlikeable. So John RItter was left to carry the whole thing.

BTW, don’t forget Models, Inc.!

The spin off that stands above the others in this category is:

Mrs. Columbo (the most ill-conceived TV series in history)

Fish

The Ropers (this show might have worked if it had been detailed properly)

Yes. I absolutely hated Vicki (what a drippy character). EZ was a Spicoli rip off, and I loathed Mandan's character more than I did Mr. Angelino.

The Ropers (this show might have worked if it had been detailed properly)

I disagree completely. The show finally hit its stride when it started exploring class-based prejudices and anticipated the whole Yuppie scum phenomenon that came a short time later.

Did they post these episodes in youtube, anyhow?

Beyond Westworld - Missed out on it when it was originally on, I might have liked it back then as a kid, but seeing it more recently, it's dull. The recent HBO series on the other hand is excellent.

AMackII:

First, major shout out, Wow, how many people remember, "Our Private World" (As The World Turns spin off). My mom liked the show.

The Munsters Today, really isn't a spin-off, it's a series re-launch,

Dallas (2012) is a series reboot (although the focus was on different characters to some extent, some of the main actors came back to reprise their roles).

And as you mention Pyramid was a revival which is pretty common with game shows.
