LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Networks in recent years have taken pains to change the idea that television during the summer is nothing but reruns of its regular programming.
Yet, here is NBC announcing it's picked up six episodes of a program that's proud to call itself a rerun show. "The Rerun Show," in fact, is its name.
The hook is that "The Rerun Show" won't actually replay old TV, but rather re-enact it. A cast of improv performers will re-create scenes from shows like "The Partridge Family," "Diff'rent Strokes" and "The Facts of Life." The idea is patterned after the stage show "The Real Live Brady Bunch," which played the early-'70s series for irony-tinged laughs.
The show, which is executive produced by David Salzman ("Mad TV") and John Davies, will debut sometime this summer; a premiere date hasn't been set.
NBC is also quiet on whether former "What's Happening" star Fred "Rerun" Berry will make an appearance.
Please take a moment to say a prayer for the family of Chandra Levy. RIP
