I can't bear to watch after comparing it to the original with Robin Ellis in 1975, and I can assure you that if you get the videos (or whatever device they're on now) you will feel likewise.

So what's the problem with the remake? I think it's very well done. The casting is good too. I just adore Aidan Turner. He's much sexier than Robin Ellis. But maybe that's a female thing. And Jack Farthing as George Warleggen is absolutely evil! I want to slap that haughty face of his! I like the whole cast especially Luke Norris as Dwight Enys. I guess I'm not interested in seeing the original because for me this IS Poldark!:) Aidan Turner has almost surpassed my affections for Paul McCartney. But not quite!

Here is a photo of Robin and Aidan as they appeared together in Poldark(2015) and another comparisons of the two Poldark's.

There's no comparison in their acting prowess, or the support cast for that matter, but then experience has taught me there's no accounting for taste. https://youtu.be/LXrD24TaQec

I like the remake. Alas, it can't have Alistair Cooke to talk for a few minutes about each episode.

I really can't understand Steve's dislike of the new Poldark. I think the acting is superb! I have to mention Jack Farthing as George Warleggan. The first time that I saw him was on the British comedy series "Blandings" He played such a irresponsible idiotic playboy who was always broke and would fall in love at the drop of a hat. He was so opposite of George Warleggan who has got to be the most evil , cruel, unfeeling, egocentric creep on the planet! He is Cornwall's version of JR Ewing! But much much worse! I absolutely hate him! LOL But I am impressed with Jack's acting that he could pull off such diverse characters. In fact I actually started watching Poldark because I knew he was in it. And Aidan Turner is my main attraction now. What a babe! Here are 2 photo's of Jack Farthing as Freddie Threepwood (heir to Blandings, Lord help them!) And as creepy haughty George Warleggan.

Well I don't know where to start. The main character, Ross Poldark, was a soldier, astute businessman and had extensive knowledge of the world, which enabled him to hold his own in political circles, whereas Aidan Turner is a one-dimensional actor more suitable for the role as Kili in The Hobbit. The chemistry between Robin Ellis and Angharad Rees was unique, both actors connected far more with the audience and without the overtly sexual scenes added which seems to be the norm of any remade period drama (Demelza trying on stockings, Ross outdoors with a scythe). Many indoor scenes seem to be shot in semi-obscurity, which may well be apt for 18th century Cornwall but are insufficient to sustain the viewers' attention.

Notwithstanding upon reading your post I will give the series a fresh pair of eyes, the state of television drama currently being so dire it maybe needs a second chance, and of course having personally contributed financially in the making of the show to the tune of £150.50 for the BBC television licence fee I feel I have an investment in so doing.

Well, they have different writers. I read in season 4 Ross will be involved with politics. As for the sex scenes ,which are mild, I thought the stocking scene was very sensual(covert not overt) without nudity. And give me some more Ross without his shirt!

Not that I'm an expert on the male physique but Robin Ellis would put Aidan Turner in his place. Such a pity the randy females have now taken over the period dramas just as they have Strictly Come Dancing, disfiguring that show in the process. Strange that you should mention Dallas because to my mind Winston Graham's storyline involving the classic love triangle of the episode I have chosen is reminiscent of the beginning of Dynasty when a distraught Krystle about to be married to Blake still holds a candle for Matthew but is firmly rejected by him.

The parallel is evident in this episode, when Ross, concerned for the welfare of the street urchin he rescued from a life of poverty then impregnated seeks to retrieve her, yet this necessitates him reneging on the far more suitable (one feels) bride of Elizabeth Warleggan, played by American actress Jill Townsend. The tension is palpable in the final scene and must rank as one of the most gripping of any period drama, and I will let you enjoy it yourselves as I still ponder how a lady from such a provenance can mimic the upper class English accent to perfection. https://youtu.be/-V4UHAz5zsI

Unfortunately YouTube has blocked your links in The USA. So I haven't seen them. And I can't find a picture of Robin Ellis shirtless but Aidan has a great set of abs! :)

I remember Jill Townsend from the Western series "Cimarron Strip" (1968). If I remember correctly she played a Brit on the series.

Now, let's get off the actors and talk about the series. I liked the Morwenna/Drake storyline in series 3. Was that in the original series?

Yes I believe so, but I haven't read all twelve books and it's 40 years since I watched the original series.

Eleanor Tomlinson(Demelza) has recorded an album. I saw it on amazon.com.

She has a beautiful voice. I loved her singing on Poldark.:)

"Poldark" Creator Debbie Horsfield Lifts The Lid on Final Season Ahead of U.S. Bow of Season Four
by Peter White
Sept. 10, 2018

"Poldark" creator Debbie Horsfield has lifted the lid on the final season of the British period drama, which will air in 2019.

Horsfield has opened up about her approach to the fifth and final season of the Mammoth Screen-produced drama after BBC and PBS confirmed its end. This comes ahead of the launch of the fourth season, which launches on PBS Masterpiece on Sunday September 30 at 9pm.

"Poldark" is based on twelve novels by Winston Graham; season four is based on the seventh novel, The Angry Tide. However, the author left a gap of ten years before the eighth novel, The Stranger from the Sea.

Horsfield, who has written every episode of the four series, said, “In The Stranger from the Sea, Winston Graham made many references to developments that happened in the gap years. Much can also be inferred. There are, of course, also historical events and people of the time, both in Cornwall and in London.

Series five will draw on all of these to follow the lives of the Poldarks, George Warleggan, the Enyses, and the Carnes in this intervening period.”

Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson will return as Ross and Demelza Poldark for the fifth series.

Also back are Jack Farthing (George Warleggan), Luke Norris (Dr Dwight Enys), Gabriella Wilde (Caroline Enys), Ellise Chappell (Morwenna Carne), Harry Richardson (Drake Carne), Tom York as Sam Carne, and Beatie Edney as Prudie.

The fifth season starts in a new century and with this comes the promise of a hopeful future, but the past casts a long shadow over Cornwall. Ross Poldark resolves to put Westminster behind him and spend more time with the people he loves.

However, when an old friend emerges with a plea for help, Ross is compelled to challenge the establishment again. As the Enyses (Luke Norris and Gabriella Wilde) rally to join the cause, Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) must contend with dangers close to home, while George (Jack Farthing) courts corrupt powers whose influence spans the Empire.

Karen Thrussell, executive producer for Mammoth, said, “At Mammoth we’re all fans of the Poldark books and we hope our audience will continue with us on the next stage of the journey. We are confident that fans of the novels will appreciate the care with which Debbie Horsfield is continuing to adapt Winston Graham’s saga.

This will be the last series in the Poldark chronicle… for now. Who knows what the future may bring.”

Andrew Graham, son of Poldark author Winston Graham and series consultant on behalf of the Winston Graham Estate, added: “No-one can know what my father would have felt about the forthcoming series, let alone what he might have written.

However, Debbie Horsfield has demonstrated such an extraordinary affinity with his work and shown such remarkable skill in bringing his Poldark characters to the screen that we know we are in safe hands. Indeed, without her, the Estate would not have agreed to series five in this form.”

A number of new cast members are joining "Poldark" for series five, including Lily Dodsworth Evans (Genius), Kerri McLean (Electric Dreams), Sofia Oxenham (Grantchester), Vincent Regan (300), Peter Sullivan (Entebbe) and Freddie Wise (Maleficent 2).

Filming has already started on the fifth season and will air in 2019.

Yes! From what I have read it will be 10 years in the future. Jeremy will be about 19 and Ross about 45.

I'm thinking about starting to watch this. My PBS affiliate doesn’t air the show everyday (they show it four days a week), and it only airs late at night along with early in the morning.
