"At the beginning of the season (which, to be fair, was the beginning of the series), Black Lightning (https://www.tvtattle.com/topic/Black-Lightning-zdfBge) was very much a show about a man trying to save his town while keeping his secret identity and family safe," says Charles Pulliam-Moore. "As the show’s gone on, though, what with its references to other DC heroes and its bringing people back from the dead, Black Lightning’s definitely becoming a lot more like some of the CW’s other cape shows that lean into the wackiness of comic books."

Black Lightning wrapped up a near-perfect season of television (https://io9.gizmodo.com/black-lightnings-electrifying-finale-marks-the-end-of-a-1825325385)
Throughout Season 1, The CW superhero series "never managed to lose its sense of hope and optimism," says Charles Pulliam-Moore. "When you sit down to watch 'Shadow of Death: The Book of War,' the final episode of Black Lightning’s first season, it doesn’t take long for it to become obvious that the show no longer feels the need to up its stakes."
